Default Drum roll, please: My new pistol...

Ruger Vaquero .357 with wood grips and polished stainless steel body, 5.5" barrell:

It'll be here tomorrow, and I can't wait! I'm already practicing my Dirty Harry speech...no, his was a .44 Magnum.

Here's where I need your advice: In my bedroom I keep a Remington 870 12 gauge (5 shots), a Kahr 9 mm (7 shots in each of 2 clips), and now the Ruger (6 shots). I also have about 50 rounds for each of these guns gun. In addition, I have guns hidden in every other room of the house, down to a .22 rifle with LR hollow-points.

Realizing that every situation is different, let's say I heard someone messing with the front door lock at night. I sleep in a pair of jeans and keep a coat on the floor lying beside the shotgun; the 2 pistols are on the night stand, and the jacket has the clips and additional ammo. I was thinking about putting on the holstered Ruger, putting the Kahr in the jacket pocket, and carrying the shotgun to near the front door, then cutting on the outdoor flood lights which illuminate the front door very well.

If the lights don't scare the bad guy(s) off, then I fire the Remington (Magnum 00 Buckshot) through the glass front door. What say?

I'd be grabbing my pistol and flashlight. I'm not going outside. But they better not come inside.

What I'm wearing isn't important.

Just one pistol and a flashlight, eh? What I'm wearing of course not important, but the jacket is useful to carr a pistol and ammo.

Don't shoot them through the door. You'll mess up the glass in your door. Wait till they get it open then blast them center mass with the 12 gauge. No need for the pistols at that point.

Also, IMHO sleeping in jeans for home defense is nuts. A dude in his underwear with a 12 gauge is way more scary to a robber than some dude sleeping in his pants with a Kahr, even if you have extra magazines.

I keep a Mossberg 500a pump by the bed and a 1911 on the nightstand. I answer the door with the 1911 in hand. The whole time I am home it is never out of reach. .45 with Critical Duty makes a helluva whole.

That's not a Pistol. It's a revolver.

Clips are used to put the ammunition into the magazines.
Never shoot at a target you have not identified and know you want to kill.

And you will shoot your eye out.

It is a nice revolver.

A little more about the pistol...er, revolver I bought: Does the handle look a slight bit odd in shape to you? There's a reason for that: The design of the handle forces the barrel upward when firing a round, thus transferring recoil from straight back at you to an upward arc.

The one time I was robbed required no word of mouth, just my own stupidity: I left my work shop unlocked, and the bad guy(s) stole some tools and a 14.4V cordless drill. Probably worth every bit of $15 on the street.

You took my advice. Congrats.

Great Revolvers, that thing will handle a steady diet of full house loads and not give you a lick of trouble. Good Job.
