Is that from the 8/4” black walnut I sent you? If so, that tree was huge! After removing the sap ring some of the yields were 18” wide! Pure heart, had a “mineral” look to it!

Curious, why do you coat it in wax? Does it keep it from cracking as it dries?

Exactly. Slows the loss of moisture and prevents cracking.
