Default Total Knee Replacement Anyone ?

Tomorrow will be three weeks since my TKR surgery.
It was not a walk in the park, pardon the relevant pun.
This is really the first time that I felt like posting, as my interest was zero and all of my energy was being channelled toward recovering and rehab.
I did have a "set back", as the doctor termed it.
I was bleeding since the surgery, and my thigh down was swollen. I actually had a fk'n kankle.. At the 12 day mark, I went to get the 25 staples out and then do PT. When the nurse yanked the final staple, my knee started bleeding at a.pretty good rate. I just thought WTF???
She and another nurse butterflied it and it stopped.
Doc came in for his look and after fkn with my kneecap said "I have some bad news. I have to drain your knee. You have a hematoma". I said no way, are you serious? .... Yep, lay down. He drained 80 cc's out of the sob. It was not pleasant, but holy chit, the knee was a lot smaller and felt a lot better immediately. He then sent me next door for an hour and a half of Physical Torture. No rest for the weary.
Anyway, today, I took my first steps without using a cane. We're getting there.
On the bright side, I have no more osteoporosis pain in my knee and am only taking.ibuprofen occasionally.
Here is the leaker...

Other than the row of staples ( ) it looks pretty good. Great to hear you walked without a cane

That was a substantial amount of excess fluid, no wonder it felt better after being drained

Make sure you follow what the physical terrorists tell you to do

Best of luck in your recovery
Jeff

I am amazed at the science of PT.
They seriously know their chit.
I have been doing exactly what they tell me to, since the day of the surgery.
I couldn't lift my foot off of the floor up until 5 days ago without serious pain.
They start you off with very simple stretching and progressively give more and more difficult exercises. It works! But it takes time.
I can now lift my foot onto a coffee table and do forward lunges with no assistance and no pain.
I totally agree with you. Do what they say. No more, no less.

That scar will allow you to brag about an "old football injury" that ended your NFL career before your first season started.

Hope you heal up soon.

Ha!!
I'm interested to see how that will turn out.
The random staple pattern seemed counter to an even heal, but maybe there was a method to the doctor's madness.
Time will tell

Did not know a knee replacement could be that tough of a procedure. Glad you are past the worse.

I've been doing three sets of PT exercises every day since the day after the surgery. One set the day of surgery!!!
There is no moss growing under this ass.
I had sparks shooting outta my ass when I dumped the cane and walked around with no aid for the first time yesterday. Dumping the walker after a week was a milestone as well.
It takes time for the muscles to get back to normal strength and the hematoma set me back about a week, even though I soldiered through all of those PT exercises.
I go to actual PT twice a week.
Today at ten. Good fun.
Here... Take that Gene

WOW, glad to hear your doing better.

My wife is spending a few days at her friends house. Her friend had a hip replaced at 8AM Friday morning and at 7PM Friday evening was released to go home.

According to my wife she was not stitched but glued up. I'm no medical person but that seems like a awful quick release after that extensive of surgery. Her friend is 68 years old 5'3'' and about 220 lbs and lives alone.

Rehab is mostly mental.
Like working out, you have to just do it.
I worked out on and off during my life, so that somewhat prepared me for the rehab.
Go to the pain threshold and back off. Rinse & repeat.
The results are instant, believe it or not.

Jeff, did you ever notice the words "the rapist" in the word therapist?

Now you'll have something else to think about when you go in for PT next time.
