I would imagine a lot depends on where y'all were doing your policing. Nice suburban areas seem like they would be a lot less dangerous than policing in the hood. I realize that a domestic dispute or drunk call can still be dangerous, because those folks, by nature, are unstable, but there's still probably less of that kind of stuff, per capita.

Honestly, I could handle the people I dealt with on the streets. And being assigned to a upper middle class suburban district is, frankly, punishment for a cop. It's a special kind of hell.

To the degree I could, I sought out the war zones. Much more easy to stay awake and the end of a 12 hour shift came much more quickly.

It's the f******N Admin that made me get to the point where I hated, hated HATED putting on that uniform. Oh, and the backstabbin' gossipin' motha-FUKKAzzz I had to work with ran a very close second. Oh, and all the additional strangulating red tape that kept flowing out of the sewers of the legislative branch in Tallahassee just... well, it just flushed me right on out of the CJ system.

Wanna do Law Enforcement a big fat Greek favor? Make me the King Of My Very Own Precinct. Give me the power to hire and deputize assistants as I see fit.

I, along with the law-abiding citizenry I felt like I was there to protect and serve, as well as the nefarious wildlife I had to arrest and cite, would all have breathed more easily (and, dare I say it? ... more freely).

Enough of this free range lawlessness in Ferguson. Declare Martial Law, bring in real US Army troops and shoot every sonofabitch caught out after curfew and seen committing any crime whatsoever. Chest cams all around and if you reach a checkpoint; and are not a local resident you get an all expense paid trip to the nearest bus station where you are allowed to leave on the next bus out... at your own expense. A couple days of enforced order ought to thin the crazies a bit.

Care to elaborate on the bolded portion? Seems like it would be a lot easier and safer than working in, say, Watts, Detroit, or some of the wards in New Orleans. You could just write a few seat belt tickets while waiting for the occasional domestic dispute or cat-stuck-in-a-tree calls.

I can understand that. If you're looking for safe and easy, you wouldn't be thinking of law enforcement as a career. That would be like being a chef and looking for a job where you didn't have to do all that cooking.

What Bill posted was borderline inflammatory. Not sure if that's what he intended or not. I tend to doubt it.

In fact, if any cop was actually establishing a pattern of seeking cushy assignments they probably would find themselves out of employment sooner rather than later. I sure as shit wouldn't want some p u s s y that I couldn't count on to back me up if I needed it.
