It really sucks to see machines you ran for a living now in museums.
Our presses were already antiques when we were using them. I actually thought Deluxe did a lifetime buy on parts etc

I remember early on in that job, crashing a press. I did a bad lockdown and I recall a lot of crunching and a day's down time.

My dad ran the lead injection type machines, my mom typed the data onto the yellow punch ribbons that fed the machine I worked pulling bank logos and matching them with lead type then at the proof press and then the regular press. Many moons ago.

Bill Lear, the owner and founder of Lear Aircraft (Lear Jet etc) named his daughter Shanda.

Shanda Lear

No joke.

Your dad ran linotypes, and your mom typed the paper tapes that ran through what was called a TTS device, which was an add-on to the linotypes. This allowed one man to run about three linotypes at once.

I do recall being told that Deluxe had some problems with a large number of Miehle presses they bough and they sued them. Miehle went out of business over the lawsuit and part of the settlement for Deluxe was all the blueprints to the press parts.

Went to HS with a girl named Kris Lehr - middle name was Shanda; you guessed it, her full first name was Kristal.

I worked at a Ford dealership called Holder Ford. It was owned by Chuck Holder. I once asked him why he didn't name his son Cup. He wasn't amused.

Yes, yes, and yes. That sounds right. I'm waking up gray matter that has been dormant for many years.

I remember my dad having to get checked for lead levels periodically. If they came back elevated, he would be moved to a different job temporarily.

Sorry for the hijack people.

There is a man currently working for the City of Savannah whose given name is Baby Boy. No joke I assure you. Seems his mother thought the hospital was kind enough to name her child for her. Other real names include Quintavious, Shaniqua, LaDonna and D'quan. It is a Southern thing I think.

I had a High School friend named Jimmy Carter and he told me shortly after Carter took office, that he was so much happier when his name meant nothing at all.
