I'm going to go out on a limb here, but the birth of your grandchild deserves a personal visit, nothing less. Get him a savings bond, too, if you want to be really old school.

I gave these to MY grandson. Be sure to get pics, as they're outgrown quickly. Good memories, whether or not golf is in his future.

Yes, you need to visit and bring a gift, maybe an outfit or something. I've never heard of grandparents receiving gifts.

They received their gift already....when their kids grew up and moved out.

Savings bonds are now such a pain to try and get.You have to do it online and they are not worth the hassle.Set up a 529 college plan for your grandson it'll be a better investment.

You need to just bite the bullet and spend the money to go there. Bring whatever gift you want. Be it something for the mother or the baby does not really matter. What will really matter is you being there.

I age 70, married 3x, first wife lasted ~2 years ~3 total in the relationship, I had the idea that I needed a paid off CAR, and a decent reliable JOB....and that did not happen until long about '71 or so.....due to many krazy happenings and some fun times also....nothing do with drugs or stupid shit like JAIL but some cross country moves....no biggie....and of course JOB instability in the consumer electronics repair field.....

which grew into an engineering tech aide position the PHD EE that owned the company seemed impressed I could answer a few questions.....

so married at age 34? for the second time and two miscarriarges and wait a year or so, and so two kids, finally.....

funny that at my age 40, 35 for the ex, my son was born, daughter is 22 months older.....

My sis is age 83, Mom had many problems between us, so sis in in fact almost a second mommy for 8 years, till she got married outta there......

Hell, I have a niece that is pushing the age of my present WIFE....and a totally useless nephew not much younger.....

so my son is age 30 and has his first, my daughter is waiting until some financial stability sets in, her hubby just past the bar, we hope, but has a good job....unless he flunked, of course.....

such is life, not every one gets a broad knocked up at age 20.....
