Default Guess it's time to remodel the mancave bathroom

We were looking at remodeling the bathroom down in the mancave this spring and fortunately have been slow getting around to it. Last night a small pipe in the ceiling froze and broke and flooded the room, trashed the ceiling, walls and flooring. Timing is everything sometimes I guess, still a PITA.

Wait, maybe I'll just put a high-tech portable toilet that stores crap in the closet and call it good.

Why did it freeze? That space isn't heated at all?

It is heated and insulated but the pipe was against a covered exterior wall and leads to the outdoor faucet. We had a couple nights below zero this week.

Back in '62 my parents bought a copper plumbed house on a ~120' deep well, and about 2 acres, the trick was the well pump in the basement along with the water heater, not an issue EXCEPT the water always tasted like copper oxide, unless letting it run forever, and sure enough, after some 20 years the pipes and WH broke down and flooded the basement.....the pipes were SO THIN it was like paper thick upon removal......in with plastic pipe.....

Do you have a frost free spigot outside?

Did you leave a hose connected to it?

That’s an odd arrangement with the toilet and pedestal sink.

It really is, it would be tough to move one at this point as the furnace is behind folding doors on the opposite wall to the head and the other two walls have doors. Open to suggestions from someone with your experience.

Dang! Might want to consider a shut off valve with a drain to empty that line out in the winter.

Or just reroute the plumbing so it's not against an outside wall.

I think I'll have a better moisture barrier/insulation board installed against that wall as well while it's out.

No, I’m old and retired and happy to spend my kid’s inheritance. Maybe I’ll buy an overpriced camper van, hmmmm.
