It's 10pm in Mozambique. We just wished our baby girl Merry Christmas also...
She's on the coast for the next few days on holiday. She says the beach is very warm, like bath water, and just beautiful...

She's in good spirits. Totally unphased and having fun with her friends today...at 1:00 AM. They all just got off work not long ago and are hanging out for a bit.

They're looking forward to hitting up the DFAC after they get some sleep. I guess they've got a pretty nice menu planned for them for Christmas.

I talked to her friends, as well. They were previously only known to me as "that's my friend" and "that's my other friend." I sent them some Santa hats a few weeks ago and they're going to get some pics with them later, after they get some sleep, but before they have to go back to work.

Merry Christmas.

Mine is somewhere in the neighborhood. Had to fly out on the 19th so he is gone for Christmas.

Holiday meals were really great back in the day. I can't see how that has changed over the years. Do you know if the USO is doing any shows over there? Most of the ones I got to see were good.

Time to start getting ready for Midnight Mass.

If she's at KAF, you've got nothing to worry about. They've got a few DFACs, all of them good. If she's on a FOB or a COP, I wouldn't worry, either. Leadership goes all-out to make our holiday meals as special as possible.

I try to keep her sheltered from my comments on here.

Seriously, though... They get wifi on base and she has her laptop with her. I chat with her just about everyday. But the wifi is a little spotty, so we mostly communicate through email when she is at work, which is when her Internet connection is consistent. Not sure she's able to hop on here (or surf the net at all) while she's at work, though.

She's not in the Army.

Besides, I'm not trying to make this political at all. I'm just saying that, through the wonder of technology, I video conferenced with my daughter...on Christmas Day (for her)...from my car in Los Angeles...to Kandahar, Afghanistan...in the YMCA parking lot.

That, by itself, is amazing.
