Here's a radically different twist on this endless debate, but let me tell you what I'm doing as a single white male individual to help the less fortunate...meaning the "Pat, I'd like to solve the puzzle".

Background, yes you all know I do well, I'm in the tech industry for 35 years, and currently work in the Salesforce Ecosystem. I am paid handsomely.

I have always had a soft spot for mentoring and building people's skills. GWiz is the classic example. You all know her story, and how successful she is, blah blah blah.

Fast forward to now, I have befriended a 28 year old minority woman who works at the gas station where I buy my beer, and who also works full time at McDonalds. This is a minority woman who WORKS...doesn't take. She works 80 hours a week at two entry level jobs, but is succeeding.

She has the right stuff.

So, I bought her a laptop computer (she had no computer), and I now meet with her weekly for lunch and train her for 2 hours. Off hours she uses the Salesforce training platform to earn badges and learn content.

I discussed this venture with my own handlers today and it was a huge success. They are going to evaluate her progress in the first week of January and potentially offer her an internship or full time job based on her skills. I am committed to make sure she can get into this ecosystem. This is LIFE CHANGING money potential for this woman. I expect zero in return. Best parallel I can give is what I did for the Polar Bear Plunge this year. I'm a mutt, and was given up for adoption, or call it thrown away, yet I've achieved wonderful things. This is my way of giving back.

My employer wants me to expand my efforts on what I'm doing to future individuals. Only required trait is "drive".

Being adopted, meeting and having a relationship with my birth mother, and also having a brother who was also adopted, has given me first hand insight on the impact of both genetics and environment. BOTH play a huge role, but my drive for this woman is because I believe she has the genetics, but no environment to escape from the system.

I do have empathy for environment. GWiz had it all. So many do not. Regardless, if you don't have the genes (drive), then you're wasting my time.

To date, and based on her accomplishments, I think she gets it VERY much. Being 28, she's got "some" life experience. I know she recognizes this as a way out, and that my involvement is genuine. She cried for a day and a half when I gave her a brand new computer.

Shooting at Michigan high school kills three and injures eight
A 15-year-old opens fire in Oxford, Michigan, killing three students and injuring eight, including a teacher.

Three Michigan high school students were shot and killed on Tuesday, including a "hero" 16-year-old, and eight other people were injured in a school shooting at Oxford High School.


Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard identified the three students who died as 16-year-old Tate Myre, 14-year-old Hana St. Juliana, and 17-year-old Madisyn Baldwin.

Bouchard said that Myre died inside a patrol car as deputies rushed him to a hospital.

Myre, a junior and a running back on the football team, has been described as a hero by his peers. A petition is also circulating that calls on the school to rename its Wildcat Stadium after him. The petition has been signed by more than 34,000 people as of Wednesday morning.

"Tate is not just a hero to his fellow students at Oxford high school but a legend, his act of bravery should be remembered forever and passed down through generations, he put his life in danger to try and help the thousands of other students at Oxford High School," petition organizer Drake Biggie wrote.

The eight who were injured included both students and a teacher.

A 14-year-old boy is in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the head and jaw. Another 14-year-old boy is on a ventilator after suffering chest and neck wounds.

A 17-year-old girl is in stable condition after being shot in the neck, and a 15-year-old boy is also stable after being shot in the leg.


A 47-year-old teacher was grazed by a bullet during the tragedy.

The suspect, a 15-year-old, is in police custody and has invoked his right to remain silent, Fox 13 reported. No motive has been revealed.

The sophomore used his father’s 9mm Sig Sauer in the shooting, police said. The father had bought the handgun just four days before the shooting, investigators said.

"A search warrant was executed at the suspect's residence and is being inventoried. The firearm used was a 9mm Sig Sauer and had been purchased by the father four days prior to the incident.
