That is the nice thing about Bowling Green, it is quite centrally located excepting those from the far western states.

Most of the TX folks have a 11-12 hr drive.
Guessing 12-13 hrs for Craig and Marcus coming from SW Florida
The folks from VA coast about 11-12 hrs.
I'm 9hrs away in WI
DAB is driving in from New Mexico, That's over 20 hours of driving.
Paul from AZ will be there
At least 2 people flying in from California...

For a once-a-year gathering, there's always going to be significant travel involved for most. And compared to most, you're not "too far away" at all. If your '79 isn't a good road trip car, who cares, bring the DD and come embarrass yourself.
You are right...Plus I've never been to Bowling Green... I really can't argue with what you're saying. I'd feel out of place w/o the Vette though, and that's kind of the point of the whole thing.
Sounds like Butterfly may be onto something for next year, so we'll see....
My wife doesn't trust any of you anyway.....Well, maybe except for Bart...

Actually the car is secondary. And in BG Vettes are like Civics in SoCal. They are everywhere. Lots of folks go without a Vette. Some fly in and show up in the Hertz rental car.

The whole idea is to meet the people behind the cars. For the vast majority of stuff you'll be driving to an event and only on the road tours would you miss the Vette. Its much more fun to AutoX the Hertz anyway.

Trust me when I say this:
The ONLY people to ever say that, have never attended a cruise in. Sure there are car-oriented activities going on during the day...

Once evening hits, grab a chair, eat some bbq, grab a drink, and let the games begin. This is when all the cars suddenly disappear and the entertainment begins. A number of people come just for this aspect, and just like walking into your local pub, no one cares how you got there.

and doing so in a pickup truck (V6 at that). had to sell my much driven, and normally dirty 98 coupe in late 2010 when we moved. needed a truck way more than a vette.

had a blast last year with the same truck, no one gave me even a hint of grief or snobbery ('hey, where's your vette'), ended up making several ice runs and giving peeps lifts (didn't drink). 4 door pickup makes that possible.

leaving tuesday AM, crashing somewhere along the way tuesday night, pulling into BG wed PM and consuming mass quantities of BBQ by Dixie. will depart sunday AM, get home monday PM. 4 days of travel, 3 days of fun. not a bad trip.

show up and add to the fun.

Bart? Bart??? Why, I wouldn't trust that bean pole any further than I could throw him! He's trouble, my friend! With a capital "T"! And it rhymes with "B", and it stands for "Bart"!

I doubt that there'll ever bee a Deep South Barn Raising. It's just too damned hot here by May. Peeps in Mich., N.Y., Conn., etc. would be miserable here with 100 degree temps/100% humidity. You and I are kinda used to it; others hate it.

Not deep south. Just south like TN, NC, N GA.

In other words...Bowling Green, KY. That's as far South as I see it coming, and only before June or July. I can understand that, though.

I like the Virginia idea. I would also be up for East Tennessee, South Carolina, Florida, etc. I think the time of year is very flexible but I would avoid holidays for a variety of reasons.

SO? hold it around March and to be easy...Tallahassee, and if not maybe Jax which is NE Florida...maybe Savannah Ga....

now Savannah....THAT is an interesting place...GHOST tours, OLD TOWN center of the city, plenty of BARS....and good eateries...

then to walk around to see the joint at NIGHT....more stories than merry old England....

of the 4 to 5 CF Cruise-in Yvonne and I attended; we only drove Corvettes the very first year we attended... and the last year. At least twice I drove the Daily Driver.

Virginia would be perfect, weather-wise, beauty-wise, and attractions-wise. East Tennessee, as in Nashville, gets hot, as does S. Car. and Fla. But, I'm just spouting off at the mouth since I won't be there anyway. Too little time to take vacations very often.
