For those able to take time off during the week, it's quite possible to come for a day or two and still be home for the holiday weekend. Many people do exactly that. Wed-Fri have traditionally been the best attended days.

Bowling Green is a 9 hour drive for me, and there was one year I drove to Bowling Green on a Thurs, said my hellos and partied Thurs night, then drove back home Fri.
I think you should host it

Discuss..

It's been tried before; I held the first ever "regional" CF Cruise-in. Had 80 Corvettes attend this two day event near Dayton Ohio. It is a lot of planning/coordinating. It would be damn near impossible for someone to arrange an event like this - to be held in a different place (other than your own locality).

The Museum makes it a lot easier for a goup to hold an event there; even though it may be quite a distance away from the groups responsible person.

My starting of Regional CI's was supposed to encourage others to do the same; but only one-other was held that I knew of, in Indiana.

I truly believe that the average Joe underestimates the amount of work required to hold a large event like this. It's certainly a lot more involved than saying to a group of teenage friends "lets cruise to Millers bridge this weekend".

I've offered to help arrange a similar event - in my tried & proven location; but CF and tVB haven't shown any real interest.

And before any jerkoff spews "boring...what's in Dayton Ohio ???"
The event was a big success, with 80 Corvettes attending; plenty of free door prizes donated. That is all that needs mentioned.

The date is a killer for me too. Wedding anniversary, member/guest golf tournament with my father, etc.

Distance and date is a bit of a problem for me. There's a major Corvette gathering in NorCal on Memorial day weekend, and even though I no longer own a Corvette, I go because it's a good place to hook up with a lot of old friends from my car show years.

I do agree with the fact that any date will be a conflict for some. I would be willing to attend a smaller regional gathering on some other date, though.

<-------------- Not the average Joe.

I took the lead in planning Cruise-In X, BR I and BR II, as well as a "pre-BR I" party at my place the year prior to BR I. It's fun, but a pain in the ass.

I'm done. Someone else gets to pick up the torch next year.

And...I think moving things around and tweaking the dates would be a great idea.

If it makes it out to the East Coast, I'm happy to help in any capacity I can. I have quite a bit of experience in event planning

It's all yours, cupcake.

Seriously...I think it would be cool to have it at GB Vette's place next year if he wanted to do it. Would love to see Virginia and have dinner at the Trellis Restaurant in Williamsburg.

If GB Vette say yes then I would say get lots of feedback from previous and this years events, identify forum resources, put a small committee together and get to work.

If a "generalized" system can be put together, then the ability to rotate location & dates would become easier.

Run To The Lake in Lake County. Parade, wine tour poker run, dinner at a country club and WSCC car show. You can find info on the WSCC website. Usually brings 70-80 cars. Put on by the Corvettes of Lake County and the Diablo Valley Corvettes.

You're only ~10 hrs away now. You may never find the event gets that much closer to you.

That is the nice thing about Bowling Green, it is quite centrally located excepting those from the far western states.

Most of the TX folks have a 11-12 hr drive.
Guessing 12-13 hrs for Craig and Marcus coming from SW Florida
The folks from VA coast about 11-12 hrs.
I'm 9hrs away in WI
DAB is driving in from New Mexico, That's over 20 hours of driving.
Paul from AZ will be there
At least 2 people flying in from California...

For a once-a-year gathering, there's always going to be significant travel involved for most. And compared to most, you're not "too far away" at all. If your '79 isn't a good road trip car, who cares, bring the DD and come embarrass yourself.

If it's in the south then an earlier date like Good Friday would work since it's warmer and plants are blooming.
