There should be a self imposed media ban on putting up all this information on these people. Maybe - just maybe - it would prevent people from doing it in the future if they knew no one would know their name.

I agree about making these people into celebrities through recognition, but they aren't. If you don't want to know anything about this person, change channels or find something else to read.

Every time (too many times these days) when something like this happens. It makes me want to pursue a CCW license. Not enough law enforcement to cover all the bases. More citizens need to be involved with security, protection, and enforcement.

Really? You think looking at and identifying people who might be having mental issues (and I'm pretty sure this guy will show unstable issues that people ignored) isn't worth it?

Because I do it every semester. I've been lucky that I've only identified suicidal students, not sociopathic students.

got my concealed carry permit this year. not worth a bucket of warm spit on school grounds.

if you want to play 'what if', what if the janitor, or PE teacher, or principal, or someone else had a concealed weapon? what if it was known that people (unnamed) on campus had a gun? would the killer have done this anyway?

I prefer to go by this motto when it comes to my CCW and carrying it: It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Rarely do I go to gun free zones, but this college I will attend next month is a necessary evil. It will stay in the truck while I am on campus, though.

Really? I know many people in law enforcement tht could have given you a damn good description of the suspect as soon as the call came in.

Don't kid yourself on information. Law enforcement agencies rely in that data and very rarely do they have outliers in their statistics.

Worth it, or working? I'd say it's not working at all. If they are a able to show this guy had unstable issues, what of it? Far too late to address them, and you simply cannot keep an eye on a person like this. They're irrational, and NOTHING they do behavior related will make any sense other than the randomness of it all.

Short of locking up every lunatic with behaviour issues, I don't think you'll stop this.

Unfortunaltey, in this case, I think the answer would be "Yes". If the reports are accurate, he went into one classroom and killed everyone in it. In the seconds that it would take to do that with the multiple weapons they say he had, stopping it would have been pure luck.

Identifying his unstable issues also did nothing to prevent him stealing a weapon if that's what he did. Hell, the proof is there it did nothing to prevent him getting a hold of a weapon anyway.
