Default GM pulling out of Mexico, jobs returning to the US.

General Motors Co. will invest $2.5 billion and save or retain about 6,400 jobs in the U.S. under the proposed four-year contract covering its United Auto Workers employees.

GM said it will bring production back from Mexico in addition to reopening the former Saturn plant in Spring Hill, Tenn., to make two midsize cars.

Other plants to benefit include the Warren transmission plant; Wentzville, Mo.; Saginaw; and Ford Wayne, Ind., which will build a next-generation truck.

Wentzville gets an additional shift to make midsize pickups.

A new compact car will be built at a site still to be determined.

Work that would have been done in Mexico will remain in Saginaw.

Another 630 jobs in Romulus and another engine plant will do work repatriated from Mexico. Romulus gets a new engine program, Warren Powertrain gets new work, and Saginaw casting receives additional investment.

The Shreveport, La., plant is still scheduled to close, but the Janesville plant remains on standby.

11,400 jobs have been recovered over the last two years, and there will be 6,500 more over the next two years.

Some damn good news right there. I thought I misread the title at first.
Growing up, my mom's side of the family were all GM (Buick and Fisher Body)

Nate! How's life?

That's interested, I wonder if this was more politically or economically motivated.

This is good news. We bought a new '05 Suburban 2500 that was built in Mexico and got rid of it because of all the issues it had. What a POS that thing was.

My '04 Tahoe Z71 was an awesome vehicle...I don't think it was Mexico built?

I'd love to see GM come back.

Nate...new mid sized pickup? Next gen full size?

My son's Tahoe has 180,000+ on the clock with no issues, no leaks, no rattles from day one. But he is like I am, a bit of a freak about keeping up on the maint and cleaning.

Yes and yes is about all I can say.

My 'hoe had a steering shaft replaced and a ABS brakes pump replaced under warranty. Other than that...excellent vehicle.

I spotted a new dark blue Tahoe Z71 the other day and thought "I could see me in that"

Looking forward to the next gen of GM trucks.

I'd guess both, but it's total conjecture on my part.

Could be quality control issues, could be issues with dealing with a country that can't seem to control the drug wars going on.

Also with the rewritten contract with the UAW, could be more affordable to hire workers.

Surely we can find a way to blame this on Obama. Oh wait, my bad, this is a good thing. Bush did this before he left office.

Let's hope this starts a trend for big business. And, that they realize the damage they've caused to the American economy and people, by thinking ONLY, of the bottom line. Quick gains for long term pains!

"Hmmmm, let's cut costs and make a quick buck, by shippping all the jobs off shore, and destroy the American tax base, and way of life!....yup, seems like a good idea!"

Hopefully GM pulled out of Mexico in time and didn't get her pregnant

That's some good news, it'd be nice if other American companies started following suit and brought jobs back home
