If you're going the box wine route, at least get something like Bota Box.

The Nightingale red is decent too. We pick up a couple Bota Boxes for when we are hosting a party, there's a point where drinking the good stuff doesn't make sense and honestly their wine isn't bad especially when you're already primed.

Exactly! I start with the good stuff, and the 2nd bottle is usually a #2 or #3 bottle that most people can't tell or don't care because they're already lubed. No point in wasting the good stuff.

I picked a box of the Kirkland Cab while I was at the DC Costco last week. They have a bottle of this if anyone wants me to pick it up for you. I’ll just charge a 10% transportation fee.

Initial taste testing pretty much confirms that it ain't Jordan.... it's too sweet.

One of the reviews I read of the 2018, which is what this is, says "it's a headache in a box waiting to happen".

That being said, I did pick up a couple of bottles of real Jordan for $45, and a really nice Provenance Merlot for $26 (Provenance is a very good winery, been there a few times and their wines are above average).

I think the box-o-not-jordan will be a good future #3 bottle for parties, served from a decanter, where the un-suspecting consumer will be too lit up to tell that it's a "#3 bottle"

I'm having some now. It is a little sweet. But it's good in my opinion. Not great. Good enough!

Yup, I agree, that's a good way to put it. I'll see if my head is pounding in the morning before I give it a pass

The next time you're at Costco, see if they have Provenance wines, they're usually pretty good depending on year.

Morning has arrived headache free, so the final verdict?

1) it's an average wine
2) it's young so it's obviously sweet, which i don't care for, but it's not sweet like jelly, just sweet for a cab
3) the convenience of being able to pour a glass without having to plan to drink an entire bottle is a huge benefit.
4) it's definitely not a jordan or from the stags leap area, and i'm thinking it's a blend...
5) Can see it as a big hit for get togethers, especially after starting off with #1 higher end bottles, the crew is already juiced and there's no reason to swill anything over $40/bottles.
6) no headache from drinking a 1 year old vintage
7) it's the equivalent of 4 750ml bottles.

Here ends the Thunder22 review of Costco/Kirkland boxed Cabernet.

Headache-free is probably the most important attribute. It's the main reason I switched from wine to whiskey.

You've never been over served a nice Chianti and woke up with a head ache?
