Of course, the theater these days is a crap shoot, so maybe try and choose non woke (or woke, if that blows your skirt up) performances.
In general, all forms of art are this woke thing if one must categorize it. It’s created and performed by free minds with free ideas. Personally I’d prefer they keep their yaps shut about any given topic and just stick to their craft so it’s more enjoyable for everyone. But artists can be a strange lot. Who among us isn’t.

We used to enjoy going to the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, VA until covid hit. Even after it was over and things were back to normal you had to wear a mask inside the building. Fck that, we haven't been back.

We go to the Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe, mediocre food, all sounds good, but its OK, but then again they have to server 35 tables at the same time but then they have a concert after.

They take your order, get you some drinks, give you about 15-20 minutes of quiet time and then the show starts while you eat.

They are the only place around here that does that.
Dolly's Dixie Stampede in Pigeon Forge does that, too.

There's a smallish dinner theater nearby that we've been to for 2-3 musical shows; tickets are always sold out, food is pretty good (and a decent value), shows are a bit cheesy but usually entertaining. We'd normally go with my wife's sister and bro-in-law; we had tix for "Jersey Boys" but had to cancel when wife's sister had to have emergency surgery for what turned out to be brain cancer.

We've been to 3 major-production shows in larger cities - Fiddler, Lion King, and Joseph. My daughter was in the chorus in her high school's production of Joseph, and we surprised her with tix to the "real thing" (with Donny Osmond and the Broadway cast). Pretty entertaining.

My sister (who was the principle ballet dancer for the Kansas City Ballet for years) used to own a dinner theater after she retired from dancing. Yes, I've been to many plays in small theaters. I used to crew for a theater in Fayetteville, NC growing up so I've been behind the curtain too.

We have several dinner theater places around here, but the Alhambra is by far the most popular. I've seen quite a few good shows there over the years.
