I'm officially unemployed...
Today was my last day as an employee of General Electric Appliances. Only time will tell, but with all of the Electrolux buyout bullsh*t going on (I was in the process of leaving before that happened), I think I might have gotten out exactly at the right time. My wife has a promising interview tomorrow so fingers crossed on that part of the plan.
All I have to do now is finish packing, move a few hundred miles away, and get ready to start a new job on Monday. At least I'll get to relax a bit... The good news is that I sold my house in 2 minutes. Seriously, 2 minutes. I walked across the street, knocked on the door of the Russian family that is moving a bunch of people into my subdivision, and asked if they wanted it. We shook hands and signed the contract the same afternoon. Waiting on the banks now but I'm hoping to complete the easiest home sale... EVAR. |

Electrolux leaving the town I live in devastated the community. Good luck with the new gig

Trust me... It's not the Russians bringing down prices. I don't know why this place specifically, but what was a really nice neighborhood just 2-3 years ago is very quickly turning into a shit hole. I wouldn't be at all surprised if prices don't start drastically falling within a year.

We have a massive GE windmill generator plant in pensacola, if they left...alot of people would be f*cked, as its the only job they ever had, and there isnt a similar type of job nearby...

They won't be in business past 2018, my WAG. (based on the fact that wind and other subsidized energy schemes will be on the outs once Obama and the Dems take an epic beat down in 2014 and 2016.)

Sounds to me like you need to buy a lottery ticket!
Not often do things go so well... not sure if you are just lucky, or a good planner. |

Nothing to be sorry for. I left GE on my own accord. You could see what was coming from a mile away. I would have liked to stay on with aviation and get to Cincy that way but it didn't work out. As soon as I could see that the sell was going to happen, I started looking elsewhere. A few weeks ago a freeze was put on all appliance employees so you couldn't go to any other business. Unfortunately I know a few people who were already in the process of going elsewhere that got hosed on that deal. I managed to get out in front of the flood of engineers and management types started carpet bombing resumes. I actually accepted what will be my new position the day after the freeze was announced. I think for once my pessimism and thoughts that we were all about to get screwed actually helped! |

Nice town. Bedroom community of Sacramento. Go check out the Agricultural Museum when you get a chance, if that sort of thing interests you. I'm about 80 miles from there and pass through sometimes. Maybe we can meet up for a beer someday.

Cool. The wife and I are planning on heading up there during Turkey week. We need to meet with real-estate agent to look at some homes, but the actual move won't happen until next summer.
