With the 6 speed manual (T56 super mag) and Moser M9 (3.73s) I can eek 24 out. IF I can keep my foot out of it and that is tough.

My secret weapon is a 2.56 Safe-T-Track rear end a buddy gave me about 15 years ago. With the stock TH400, I am at 2450 RPM at about 78 mph and 3000 rpm is 91 mph. If I had a lock up converter it would be better. What I like is that these cars are comfortable on a long run, look better each passing year, and have a TON of space for gear. We were literally treated like rock stars at every National Par, scenic lookout, or gas station. People love seeing these old rides because they just don't appear on the road much. Sure, you'll see a Mustang or Camaro...but how often do you see a '67 GTO humming down the highway?? (or an early 'vette for that matter!)

Funny but I know very little about these cars and ‘67 was my guess.

Yours is my favorite GTO style. Love rear quarters that seem to go on forever, and the over/under headlights! Glad to hear others are getting out!

One of the downsides of my Corvette is that with the old style 454, 1:1 in 4th gear, even with the 3.08 rear, I'm 3000 rpm at 75 mph. It makes a hell of a racket! The best mileage I have ever gotten out of it is 14, on a pure highway run like from here to Carlisle.

Most of us started driving before overdrive automatics and 5 speeds were common. I remember 3 on the tree with OD, and my '37 Chrysler had Borg Warner overdrive and a 3 speed floorshift. But the rear gear was 4:30.
I remember driving my '66 GTO to the Grand Canyon in 1982 with a 3.55 rear end and the 1:1 4 speed at speeds of 80-100 mph, thinking nothing of it. Nowadays, we're spoiled by deep overdrives, flush glass, good sound deadening, and aerodynamics. So our old rides seem even worse than they actually are or were.

Hey man, I'm not complaining! I don't have a problem with making a lot of noise on a highway, nor the relatively shitty gas mileage my car gets, that's how the old school rides rocked!

But I do appreciate a good resto-mod. All the classic styling with the advantages of a modern drive train. What's not to like?

So much fun to drive this beast. (LS7 swapped full restmod)
Scott

I had a '69 Galaxie 4229, triple black for thirteen years. Longest I have ever kept a car. There were times I'd let it sit for months at a time. Then I'd get it out and drive it and remember what it was like. I finally did sell it after I got hit in the driver side and it was totaled. It sat in my back yard for four or five years and I let it go. One of the ones I'd wish I had kept.

You need to bring that beast down here for one of your extended stays. I'd love to go for a ride in that bad boy.

That would be a blast but that 17 hour drive is a bitch...
Why I've been flying down and renting cars each trip.

Gotta get the Wiz clan up this way sometime. Do a weekend up at Mom's lake house in the Summer when the pavement is melting in your hood.
