answer: the posts are 100 feet apart.

imagine that you stand on the top of one pole and pull the rope taut. the slack would go down 25' and back up 25', leaving 100' of taut rope, thus, poles are 100' apart.

Fraid not. The poles are 0' apart. Standing side-by-side, if not even in the same place.

Hell, Jethro did not rely on the camera. He just watched each car come in and noted the location of the gas cap versus how they pulled up to the pump.

And for you smart asses that say you can't see the location of the gas cap if it is on the other side, well if you can't see the damn thang, it is on the other side.

Now, that would not be the case in fifties through the 70,s as some had them in the rear.
