All in all, I'm happy I made the move. In fact, I have zero regrets. It was one of the best decisions I made in my life

Carolinas are on the short list for where my wife and I will retire to. We love the Outer Banks. I have spent time in Greenville SC and really liked it there.
Like you said, you can be in the mountains or at the beach in a couple of hours. Not so freakin hot as Florida (unless you are in Charleston SC).

All the Yankee carpetbaggers have settled in NC over the years. Lower taxes and less intrusive govt. in South Carolina generally. No vehicle inspections either for you modders.

I was born in NC and am a lifelong 'Hell fan, but any of the more populated areas of the state are becoming culturally foreign and the ENTIRE state, even rural sections, is effected by political changes in Raleigh.

I pretty much dislike where I live, the only time of the year that it is liveable is a few days in the spring and the fall.
Winter isn't too bad, as long as it is dry, but some winters it rains for weeks on end and is 50 degrees, it sucks.
I would like to have a place on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe to spend from Apr to Oct in. Then I'd put up with the winters here in south Texas.
