I want the model made before catalytic converters so it runs good on regular gas.

Looks like only 13 from one dealer. GM is really shooting themselves in the foot on this one.

You used to be able to walk into any dealer's and buy the same equipment that's on police cars. They were just like any other option. Sometimes the salesperson didn't know that, but he/she could look up the options, and you could get them. BTW, the police options make for a great-driving car.

I know it sounds stupid, but here's the idea behind their reasoning: If GM sells the same car they're selling to the police to the public, stupid Joe Public is gonna say, "WTF? They're selling the same car to criminals? So the criminals can get away from the cops? That just ain't right. Damn car companies will do anything for a profit." They're going to equate it with selling "Police Ammo" to criminals. Yes, some people do believe that only the police can buy "special" ammo or guns.

the only problem with that argument is the Crown Vics.
If that were the case Ford would have taken a lot of heat for selling those damn things.

Even with the police package, older "police specials" were still overweight and painfully slow and poor-handling.

People would talk about having a police Crown Vic as if it was something to be proud of, something to brag about... when they'd still get destroyed by the pony cars and sports cars of the time.

Being faster than the base car, is not the same as being fast.

I don't believe that for one second, GM has been selling civilian versions of cars that were equal in performance to cop cars for years. Why would they stop now? Besides, do you honestly think that Caprice (which has a 355hp 6.0) will keep up with a Corvette, Camaro SS, or CTSV? Not a chance, & that's why cops all have radios, you can't outrun the Motorola.

I grew up driving RWD cars, that's what I like, & I'll die before I change. The only 4 door RWD car GM will sell me nowdays is a Caddy CTS/CTSV. If I have to spend Cadillac money just to get what I want, then I'm also going to be looking at Benzes & Bimmers. This car would make a nice DD replacement for me, but I guess I'll be keeping the Impala SS a few more years. Or looking somwhere else.

I expect to see the Caprice and a Buick Roadmaster version of the vehicle in the next couple of years.
