30+ years ago, when I was in the dating scene in the SF Bay Area, the women all wanted a guy who was 6 foot 2, blond hair, blue eyes, body like Fabio, who had a 6 figure job, was sensitive, like long walks on the beach, and would come home to them every night with a rose between his teeth and sweep them off their feet and take them out on the town. Romance novel stuff. Average, honest, hard-working guys were pretty much invisible. 95% of those women struck out after many failed one-nighters, and many ended up partner-less and having babies through clinical insemination and became single moms or devoted their lives to saving animals. But men were/are no longer part of the picture. And as the years go by, and the pounds accumulate, the options---if there are any left--- continually diminish.
