It’s hard to find it. See the brightest star/planet on the right? It’s a “line” of light”.
The satellite was moving. Yes, 10. 2 o’clock from the middle star. |

Thanks for the pic; it reminded me that we're supposed to be able to see one of the groups here tonight at around 9:20 PM. The weather is a bit cloudy, hope it clears by then.

Cool shot! The bright star near the center of the frame is Betelgeuse, one of the stars in the Orion Constellation. It's the star astronomers thought might go supernova a few months back. Below it, you can see the thee stars that make up Orion's belt. There's also a faint smudge below the left most star in the belt. That's the Orion Nebula. The brightest object in the upper right near the trail is Venus. When I blow this up the trail appears to be blinking which usually indicates an aircraft but the SpaceX satellites are really close together and I wonder if this is a string of 7 or 8 them. Did you use an app or website to know where to shoot? Very interesting shot! Thanks for posting. What camera and settings did you use? [Edit] Found some photos of SpaceX satellites online that look very similar. I knew they were close together but didn't realize they were this close. Great shot!! |

I'm signed up to a website that notifies me by email whenever the International Space Station overflies my zip code. It happens multiple times every month. It looks like a bright star and it takes about five minutes to transverse the sky.

Triple, Thank You for the awesome info! My DIL sent me a text at 8:15pm saying the weatherman said we should be able to see satellites at 8:22. So I went behind our house to the highest point on the property in the pasture. I didn’t know where to look. I finally saw some movement when I was looking toward the sunset. I snapped 3 pics with my iPhone 8+. This was the last pic. We also saw one cross in front of the moon. I am not a photographer or an astronomer. I’m guessing now it was a lucky shot. Now I wish I had taken time to get my camera.

There are some incredible images of the ISS going between earth and the moon. Google ISS moon transit. Wish I had a more powerful telescope... I'd give it a try. |
