Default My childhood home is for sale.

My older brother sent me this link, as he is considering putting an offer in. Apparently, it has been sitting empty with the utilities shut off for a couple of years, so there is work to be done. At that price, there could be major issues. We moved to FL when I was 10, (he was 16) so my attachment isn't as strong as his, but I would love to have it back in the family. I guess it's a family thing, as my parents bought my Grandma's last house to use as a summer home a few years ago.

Not one shot of the pool.

And the property taxes doubled between 2022 and 2023.

I’ve never been sentimental about real estate.
After my mom and dad passed my sister waited over two years to sell the old family home.

I tried to consult her on the market but apparently having a brother who is in the real estate business was of no value to her.
Her waiting cost thousands. Oh well what do I care as I didn’t see a dollar from it.

Idiot.

I'm surprised she didn't blow her brains out, "I miss mom."---BANG!

Same thing happened to me. After dad died, my older brother (Democrat) grieved for 2 years in the house while the taxes went delinquent and it degraded. The market value in '08 was about a million even, and when I finally got him out of there in '11 we got 500k for the place. It's worth 3 million now. Figured he cost us each about 200k even.

Based on the recent history of the house, I'm sure it's the color of coffee. There is one photo of a room under construction that my bro and I don't even recognize. We are thinking it's what used to be the boat garage when we lived there.

There appears to be water damage on the ceiling in the large olive-colored room. Also ceiling damage visible above the tub in the master bath. Again, what appears to be a water stain above the wet bar area in what appears to be the downstairs. This could account for the drop in price. It appears that they were asking nearly $800k until very recently.

They found hoarders next door, and a used car lot across the street...

Born and raised in Albany NY. Moved out when married and hardly go to the city any more.

For a good reason went by our old place a couple weeks ago. Looks like it was on fire and is now deserted. I do see that it is mentioned a lot on the news, been at least 3 murders and much other showings of black culture in the general area of the house in the last year. One the dead guy was leaning against the side wall of the house.

It used to be when I lived there a good middle class mixed racial area.

Of course the protected species run wild today and I was glad I was carrying! That was the day, the nights are much worse. Looks like you should be in a Bradley or better yet a Abrams if you there in the dark.

My childhood home cost us 14k. My mom and five brothers and sisters all worked so we could afford to live there since my mom kicked my alcoholic dad out. The same home two years ago sold for 1.6 Million and the one across the street 1.5 Million.

Same, I've moved all over the east coast and once wife an I left a place, we had no regrets and moved on. Seems we alternated between rural and urban setting with each move, but now a quiet subdivision with great neighbors is it - rambling days are over...

Given the chance to walk through my childhood home for free to see what has happened to it in the 1/3 century since my parents sold it? If I was free that day, and in the area, sure. Ask me to pay $5 for the privilege, and the answer is a hard "NO!"

Make an offer on the place? What, are you ****ing kidding me? The family moved on from that place decades ago for one or more reasons. I'll bet about a million bucks those reasons haven't changed.

But there are idiots that when they hit mid-life, go looking for their old girlfriends from high school/college. Same brand of crazy. ALL of my exes are exes for good reasons, and I'm guessing those reasons have even gotten worse, or multiplied in the intervening decades.

My parent's 1100 square foot house with one bathroom and 2 bedrooms for 4 kids and 2 adults looks like a hovel compared to that place.... My brother recently sold it and good riddance; 1/3 of my teenage years was spent working on the place.

Damn, I can smell that place just by looking at the pics.

My childhood home was torn down to make way for commercial development and I thought it was cool to watch.
