Default [Baseball] ESPN's Hall of 100

With the HOF announcement coming soon, ESPN put together their list of the top 100 players in baseball. Ever. Including both live and dead ball.

Link

It's an interesting list and includes PED users, banned members and some other interesting players that I wouldn't have thought of. Includes some current players, some well known players and some who are off the beaten track.

It's a pretty solid list IMHO, and the top 25 will drop on Thursday, Jan. 13.

Thoughts?

I know there are some solid baseball peeps on this forum.

I suspect the top ten will include Honus Wagner, Stan Musial, Lou Gehrig, Joe Dimaggio, Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, Mickey Mantle and that asshole Ty Cobb.

Babe Ruth should be far and away the number one.

Babe Ruth, RF/LHP

Career: 1914-35, Red Sox, Yankees, Braves
Fun fact: 714 homers, two 20-win seasons

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is no doubt that the Babe was the greatest player who ever lived. That doesn't mean he was the greatest person.

Years ago, I was sitting at a picnic table in the Yankees' clubhouse, waiting to talk to a player, when Pete Sheehy, the ancient clubhouse man, plopped down opposite me. We made small talk until I asked him, "Pete, you knew Ruth -- what was he like?" Pete thought for a moment, and said, "He never flushed the toilet." -- Steve Wulf
