Why / If an idiot wants to shoot himself-so what ? Kind of like not supporting cars over 300 HP because the owner "might" speed.

I'm not worried about someone accidentally shooting themselves, I'm worried about someone accidentally shooting me.

What statistics do you have that show this is more likely with open carry than concealed?

(p.s. someone is statistically more likely to accidentally kill you with their car. You should probably become a shut-in hermit and have everything delivered.)

You are much more likely to die from your own doctor treating you than you are to die from any sort of gunshot wound, accidental or purposeful murder attempt. Over 100,000 people in the US each year die from medical accidents.

If someone shoots at you, it won't be an accident.

Joe, open (or concealed) carry has absolutely nothing to do with what happened.

Face it... it's your dislike of guns that drives you to make posts like this one above.

There is no such thing as an accidental discharge, they are all negligent. The only exception would be a handgun using an "inertia firing pin",

The Glock has three internal safeties. I have investigated three negligent discharges with Glock’s. All three ended up with the Officer having their finger in the trigger. They all swore at first that their finger was no where near the trigger.

After inspection of the firearm, it was determined that there was nothing wrong with the pistol.

After careful interrogation, and once, a re-enactment with an unloaded Glock, it was determined that at sometime during the manipulation, the finger entered the trigger guard. In the re-enactment, the Officer’s finger entered the trigger as the weapon was entering the holster. No one was injured in any of these incidents.

As for an external safety, they become a problem of manipulation in extreme stress. The fine motor skills needed to manipulate a safety go out the window. I have seen many people during Simunitions Marking Cartridge Training, pull their firearm out of their holster when a threat presented itself, pull the trigger, and had nothing happen. They forgot to disengage the safety,

This of course, does not pertain to the individual that has the “Spinal Tuning” brought about by many manipulations/training or combat stress.

People like this scare me and should not be carrying anything more than a candy bar. You can tell by his size he knows how to do that.

Actually, when I was doing my LEO thing, a moron had an installed trigger shoe on his Colt Gov't. while putting his pistol in his holster with the firearm loaded and cocked, thumb safety off (he didn't want to lose any time when he drew down). Of course, the holster was pressing on the shoe and when he compressed the grip safety to draw, he shot himself in the leg. I was delighted, as I was his target and he lay on the sidewalk screaming while I covered him with my .44 mag back-up loaded with Remmy mid-range .44 mag loads. The bus took him away, I puked in the street, my partner congratulated me for not shooting him and setting up a paperwork nightmare, and I went back to a more pinstriped, button-down collared and repp tie day job where carrying firearms were not de rigeur. While I did not follow up, I sincerely hope the shithead who precipitated my job search walks with a severe limp.

Cynically,

3aHryr, p*ssy for the last 29 years

PS- Skiz, there are more stupid ADs (otherwise referred to as gun stupidities than you can imagine and more than a few equipment-caused failures because many stupids believe they understand semi-autos). I am an NRA-certified instructor and spend a great deal of time pointing out how they happen. I also recommend all novices use revolvers and I, myself, who have had mil and LEO training, 57 years experience and have fired well over 250,000 rds with s-as, prefer a revolver when my life is on the line. That said, I have carried semi-autos on duty, qualified with them repeatedly, have more experience and training than most and trust any of my proven 1911s implicitly.

Harry, fairly seriously

Exactly. He didn't have the safeties engaged. If he had, he wouldn't have shot himself and you might have had a worse day.

I prefer revolvers because they don't leave brass behind at the scene.
