Default Sig Sauer Chosen for New Army Sidearm

Army Picks Sig Sauer's P320 Handgun to Replace M9 Service Pistol

Quote:
The U.S. Army on Thursday awarded Sig Sauer a contract worth $580 million to make the next service pistol based on the company's P320 handgun.

Sig Sauer beat out Glock Inc., FN America and Beretta USA, the maker of the current M9 9mm service pistol, in the competition for the Modular Handgun System, or MHS, program.
...
The 10-year agreement calls for Sig to supply the Army with full-size and compact versions of the gun. The pistols can be outfitted with silencers and accommodate standard and extended capacity magazines. The firearms will be manufactured at the company's facilities in New Hampshire.
...
In their statements, Army and Sig officials didn't specify what caliber the new Sig Sauer pistol will be.

Sig touts the P320 model product as "modular" and "adaptable," with interchangeable grips, multiple sizes and calibers that can be converted between 9mm, .357SIG and .40S&W. "From calibers, to pistol size, to the grip fit best suited for the shooter, the P320 is the most adaptable pistol available today," the company says in promotional materials.

They will manufacture them in NH. Good for them.

Correction. They are moving to a lower energy cost state.

Isn't Arkansas a right-to-work state? I wonder if that factored into things?

In any event, this is a huge win for Sig. They will make money on the government contract, of course, but I'm pretty sure tens of millions of American gun collectors will also buy the civilian variant, too.

NH is in the early stage of passing RTW. It will be a tough fight.

NE has been hurt by the increasing cost of energy over the past 20 years. I know I saw my Electric bills and propane bills growing each year. It was one of the factors that made us sell the home in NH and live in FL full time.

Anticipating lower bills in PA, but we'll see. Not looking forward to the extra taxes...

I have natural gas, not propane, but my electricity costs $ .077/kW, and my gas bill is rarely over $ 20. Of course, our winters are nothing like up north. Fracking is the biggest reason for both of those things, as Natural gas pretty much sets the price for electricity here, even though Texas also has coal, nuke, wind and solar.

I agree with most of your statement. The big problem in NE was the transmission of Electricity and gas. The NIMBY attitude prevented or delayed gas pipelines and electric transmission lines from going in while older coal plants were being phased out. Along wiht taxes hidden in those utilities.

Why is the delivery charge higher than the cost of electricity? I've yet to see the delivery truck.

Most months, the delivery charge is higher than the cost of the natural gas on my gas bill. That pays for the cost of the pipeline system that brings me that gas, and monopolies in Texas are capped on their profits. I'm buying my gas at the same cost my gas supplier pays.....every other cost, including overhead and profit, is rolled up in my basic monthly charge, i.e. the privilege of being hooked up to buy gas.

From your link about the move:

Sig Sauer is also facing a problem finding talent. The company set aside space at its headquarters for a community college training program to give workers the skills they need in the company. Despite that effort, though, there are still 200 job openings at Sig Sauer in New Hampshire.
So energy costs are not the only problem with the NH location

The local TV station actually interviewed someone from Sig Sauer before this deal was announced. The Sig rep did mention that while there were several job postings available, the energy costs were driving the opening of a new facility in the south.
