Default What's wrong with my transmission?

When I crank up my 92 Nissan pickup, and put it into either D or R with my foot off the brake, instead of hearing the familiar clunk as the drivetrain engages and having the truck immediately start to move under engine idle, it takes maybe 8-10 seconds for the truck to slowly start to move. After a full 10 seconds or so, the truck drives just fine. It's only sluggish to move when I first crank it up.

Fluid level seems to be fine. Transmission is hot. Drove it about 1/2 hour ago.

This transmission probably has about 112,000 miles or so on it. Fluid looks bright clear and red.

Does the tranny fluid smell burnt?
Like burnt toast?

It's another way of telling if the fluid is no good.

Hey, I've owned that truck new since '92. Well, almost new. It had 3,000 miles on it.

Got a LOT of memories in that truck. I was a professional musician from 94-97 and used that truck to get my ass and my equipment to a LOT of gigs, back in the day.

Just painted it six months ago. I LOVE that truck.

The only other inexpensive suggestion I would add is to drop the pan and put a new filter in.....a clogged filter might be a problem...if you see a crap load of metal in the bottom, that will be an answer, too, just not the answer you might be hoping for.

Probably nothing a good carpet cleaner or upholstery shop couldn't fix.
