Asking for tips...

We went to dinner last night at a pretty nice place and they had valet.

We pull up one guy opens the door for her, the other guy comes over and gets the keys and gives us our ticket.

We had a fantastic meal and as we're getting ready to leave the waitress asks us for our ticket to have the car pulled around.

I always give her the tip because my expectation above all else is that they open the door for her. I don't really care if they just hand me the keys but my expectation and their's too should be to open the door for the woman.

Car pulls up one valet opens the passenger door and once she gets seated she hands him a tip.

The guy who pulled the car up gets out of the car and even before he hands me the keys or gets out of my way says " do you have a tip for valet ".

We tip often and well. Although last night was decent out there are plenty of shitty nights in Michigan with the snow and everything else where those guys have to work pretty hard.

It was pretty bold and irritating not to mention the fact The guy didn't know if he was getting a tip or not cuz he didn't even give a chance or listen to his partner who had already thanked her for it.

I'll wait for the no tipping crowd....

I opened a door for a young female colleague once in Wash DC and got the "I'm perfectly capable of opening the door for myself" speech.

I couldn't find appropriate worlds to tell her I did it so I could watch that fine azz go by.

I was at a fast food restaurant up north a few years ago, looking up at the menu, next in line, when a young woman behind me politely asked if I was ready to order. I said "no ma'am, please go ahead."

Her soy boy friend immediately copped an attitude, avoiding eye contact with me. "Oh, he ma'amed you"in a demure little voice. I looked him straight on and told him firmly "I'm from The South. We call every woman that we don't know ma'am, as a show of respect."

She gave me an approving nod and a not-so-approving gesture to him.

My well-raised daughter, says Ma'am, Sir, Please and Thank You at 44 years old in every public setting I've seen her in; its a source of pride for me and many have remarked on what a polite and courteous woman she is. Her 17 year old daughter is exactly the same.

Now if you mis-gender someone because you haven't thrown a dart a board full of 47 pronouns to find one to address them by you're a Nazi..

Happened to me once. I did a couple of quick steps to beat her to the door only to get, "I can do that myself, thank you."
My wife looked at me and said just loud enough to be heard, "Well, I guess you can't be nice to SOME people."
