Being a cop is serious shit. The shooter was wrong here. It was a girl from what I gleaned in the video, hu? Not that it matters, but the perp didn't lunge, he walked. Ya, he didn't comply, but to be the judge, jury, and executioner in this scenario is just wrong.

nor did he drop whatever was in his hand after repeated commands to do so. cop believed that he was holding a deadly weapon (could have been a knife blade that was turned toward the suspect's body and not visible).

Another update from the AJC: GBI: Georgia Tech student called 911 before shooting

UPDATE: Georgia Tech student Scout Schultz called 911 before being shot by campus police, the GBI reports.

Schultz called 911 alerting them “of a suspicious person on campus. In the call, Schultz describes the person as a white male, with long blonde hair, white T-shirt and blue jeans who is possibly intoxicated, holding a knife and possibly armed with a gun on his hip,” the GBI said in a statement.

Three suicide notes were located in Schultz’s dorm room. ...

...and prior to the moment they got shot, anybody saying that this person needed psychological help would have been immediately villainized, labeled as homophobic, racist, sexist, supremacist, ... immediately fired from their job, kicked out of school (or whatever their situation may be), and made into public enemy #1.

at the moment the police made contact, they didn't know who it was, what their condition was (on meth?), what their intentions were. all they know is that he was acting aggressively, and would not follow lawful commands.

When I was teaching JJ we had several local ,state and Federal officer along with military come train with us in the mid 80's to the mid 90s.

I can't count the time I went up against experienced LEOS and mill with a knife and hurt them bad within 21 feet. And I am not that fast running.

I had one Local Officer do it three times. The last time I went nuts on him to drive the "point" home.

People have no idea how dangerous someone is with a knife at 21 feet or less.
