From my understanding, even if the diary was actually stolen, vs. lost property, I don't know that it would have been illegal for Veritas to publish it. Veritas ultimately chose not to publish it out of an abundance of caution....not 100% sure it was authentic, and then they offered it up to the FBI, as I recall. And for that, Brandon had them attacked with lawfare from the DoJ. As an example, Veritas offered the diary to the FBI. Had the FBI actually investigated and wanted to prosecute Brandon for sex crimes, they could use the diary as admissible evidence, even if it had been stolen from Ashley, and not lost BY Ashley.

If that's not chilling the 1st Amendment freedom of the press, I don't know what is. And this isn't a left/right issue, because look at what is being done to the White Wizard, the Wikileaks founder. I love Trump, and Trump could have saved Assange, freed him from the Kafkaesque nightmare he has been living, but Trump didn't do it, and of course, Brandon isn't going to do it, either.

Let's say the diary was fan fiction, not real, like the Steele Piss Dossier. OK? It's fake. If it is fake, then the FBI would have some esplainin' to do about why they are charging people with theft for stealing it?

If I fake a diary and claim you wrote it, am I guilty of theft? I didn't steal anything, it's a fake. So why would the FBI bring theft charges if it wasn't real?
