I haven't purchased any commercial ammo for myself for many years now. My first ever batch of .45ACP had a single squib... since that day I weigh each and every charge that goes into a case here. The only centerfire round which has failed in any way for the last 20 or so years was a Winchester "white box" 9mm 115 grainer with a dead primer during a Glock match... damned round cost me a win that day.

Is he supposing it's material or manufacturing (QC) related? I wouldn't bet money that it's the fault of the ammunition based on this video since so many young people these days seem to think not cleaning their gun gives them bragging rights.

Add to that the only facts presented were caliber, bullet weight, and gun type. This is not even close to being enough detail to form an opinion. He had a decent sample size left to take some measurements and do a statistical analysis. Was this beyond his ability? If his ability is limited to chambering a round and pulling the trigger why should his opinion be worth anything to anyone.

To top it off he thinks 72 cents a round for 9mm is a good bargain. Really? This guy is throwing away $5 bills faster than I can say WTF.

Damn.

I use ammoseek a lot, as they typically are very competitive. But I will never cheap out below Winchester White Box/Lake City.

I am a bit skeptical, as is Torq. There is no muzzle flash on the kablooie shot. Basically all the energy came out the back. Yet, at the same time, the cartridge chambered successfully. What could actually cause this? Super duper fouled barrel? Super duper "crimp", even though 9mm is really just squeezed?

I would expect an oversized projectile to misfeed unless the Glock has a monster spring.

I only buy from reliable companies, I buy some one offs but research the hell out of them 1st. It would be like like buying any high performance vehicle and putting the cheapest tire on it once needed...seen it, it did not end well.

I will never buy at auction Freedom Munitions ammo again. Got some .38 special cheap locally for my 12" barrel target revolver and had 2 underpower loads that made it out of the barrel and 1 that did not out of 3 boxes 150 rds. Others left corn cobb like debris in the gun and sometime a little blow back. After the 1st one we dissected some rounds at the range and determined they underpowered all there loads filled with other than gunpowder. Been 7-8 years ago. Not buying any more to see if they figure it out

If the case is too long it could be mechanically pinched onto the bullet by the end of the chamber.

The 9mm case "typically" headspaces on the case rim. A case that is too long should prevent the slide from closing and the disconnect isn't supposed to allow firing pin activation without lockup but this not something I'd depend on. Some poorly designed (or malfunctioning?) guns will allow firing without full slide closure. The case failure of a round fired out of battery in this way would appear as shown in the video.

I suspect a case can be short enough to allow chambering yet long enough to expand beyond the chamber into the barrel and pinch the bullet when fired. Don't recall hearing this elsewhere so it may simply be a superstition of mine but it's probably the reason for published maximum and minimum trim lengths.

I add the "typically" qualifier to headspace because I've shot 9mm with a roll crimp, it's no problem, the cartridge is held in place by the extractor. I only do this when loading lead bullets because (IMO) they seem more prone to setback in comparison to jacketed bullets when hitting the feed ramp using a taper crimp. A setback bullet generates far greater pressures due to reduced case volume than a crimped bullet could ever dream of. The 9mm isn't overly sensitive to reduced case volume (in comparison to other calibers) but it's not a road I wish to travel.

I thought Lake City, particularly the "green tip" was desirable. Is that wrong?

We can't shoot M855 at our indoor range. Has to be M193 or other non-LAP ammo.

Maybe what I wrote came out wrong. There are other ammo's that are cheaper than the White Box, but I have shied away from them. Never had any issues with the Winchester WB. I use it on the range for 5.56, 9mm and 40 S&W.

There was some issue with the .gov coming in at Lake City and forbidding Winchester from selling excess .gov 5.56 ammo on the open market. Not sure where all that went, but I have not seen it affect supply and cost as of yet.
