Default Gun Folks, Step Inside.

Anyone familiar with the Springfield version of the Browning Hi Power out now?

I've always wanted an actual FN made one, but this is interesting, with some subtle changes for better functionality.

Of all the Hi Power offerings out there that was the one I would buy. Unfortunately I live in the peoples republic of NY and its magazine capacity scares the shit out of the NY city liberals that run this state.

Checked in with a few local gun shops to try to order the gun, as I know there are smaller capacity magazines available. They would not or could not help.

As stated that one gave me the best impression and I would gladly drop money and get it. Among other things it does not have that magazine disconnecter stuff which in many other guns makes the trigger pull much nastier.

The gun is fairly new but everything I have read about them is positive. I believe I saw somewhere it was selected as Gun of the Year for 2023 by Friends of the NRA. I have been hankering for a Hi-Power and believe I would buy this one.

Guys at the range like the SA-35, I have yet to shoot one.
Around $500, or if lucky at auction $1k for a real one that's a shooter with no life time warranty.....

Looks like about $ 700+ is what they are fetching.

For $ 500, I'd buy one today.

Hickock says the weight is a negative but that probably makes it limpwrist proof. I don't personally like being forced to shoot with a locked wrist and stiff arm as required with most plastic frames. Better accuracy to be had when you're telling the gun what to do rather than the other way around.

The Springfield version gets high marks from every source I've read. Appears to be an excellent value. So much cooler than the plastic guns.

All I've read on them has been positive. ( the only negative is it's not made by FN )

I almost bought one after reading a bunch of reviews. Ended up with the real thing though. It's a low miles chrome with adjustable sights which was badly discolored from sitting in a drawer somewhere for 30 or so years... most paper is acidic and the finish was hazy with a few tiny rust spots... cleaned up nicely, great trigger since I pulled the mag disconnect out, and I only paid $670.00 for it. I don't think it had fired a full box from new... there is virtually no wear anywhere. Unless you "need" one now I would shop around a bit for a good original... it will probably appreciate in value over time, the Springfield perhaps not.

If a company cannot make a 1911 properly, arguably one of the oldest designs for a handgun ever they should pack it in. As to the weight, my original Series 70 Colt Government Model in long slide was a brick - and any other similar 1911 would most likely be as well.

I did not fire one, my good buddy has the Browning Hi-Power date stamped in the late 1930's, was appraised for $2,000+ about 10 years ago. Very nice pistol.

My Ruger SR1911 Commander 9mm weighs 29 oz. I use it as a daily carry. With a good belt and holster can't even tell it is there.Click image for larger version

I'll take it over a plastic gun any day. The long slide ( or even a standard length) would be a lot harder to carry.
Top one is the nine. Bottom is it's .45 brother.

I almost bought the Browning version a few years ago. One of the most beautiful deep blue pistols I have ever seen. I think we were about $75 apart on price.
I have always regretted it.
I am interested in this new version. For the price seems like a deal.

Regardless of what you buy, just train with it..
Modern 1911s are pretty well made. I like the Springfield Ronins.
I carry a P226 or P365 or CZ PCR, all depending on weather..
Whatever you carry, train with it, of which I am sure we all agree..

I had a Kimber Ultra-Raptor .45 1911 for about 18 months, it was a Jam-O-Matic and I couldn't trust it, even after 2 trips back to the factory; I think they just couldn't get the timing right on the short action - it got sold down the road.

No idea but I do have a Browning/Sig that is my favorite to shoot but don't.

Dealer told me I needed to clean it and put it in storage. They only made them for a couple years and production was quite low.

It is a well designed, extremely well manufactured piece. I wouldn't carry it daily but you should shoot it because that is what it was made for. A couple hundred rounds a year... your grandkids will still be using it regularly.
