That is why I put the full bore ball valve in before I even install the tank. Easy to flush and do not like feelling like a frogs ass.

I'll never go back to a tanked water heater; but nat. gas versions are the ones that save in energy costs. I don't have nat gas available; went with electric tankless solely to open up space in the utility room. With this electric, I maybe saved $5/month on electricity:

I wouldn't mind going tankless but it would be expensive. I have a gas water heater so that means running new gas lines, or running new electrical to convert to an electric tankless.

Why would you need to run a new gas line?

Just what I read. Has to do with the amount of gas needed to instantly heat the water I guess. Larger line than a tank requires.

I paid a good dood to do the install, his business was slow, and he was more than qualified.
IIRC, he used a 50 from the main box, and then did a separate box of 3 X 60, in over 4 years of ownership I believe I had to reset it once.

Another IIRC, I bought at Amazon, was $100 less than HD, but no taxes, I think I paid $1,500 , looked today at HD and they are over $2K. Nice unit, has an easily accessible temp gauge, you can run as high as 120 F, that C crap is for communists.

I am still a cheap bastard, but I see value in these, as never had an issue with running out of hot water even when there were six living at the house.

Damn it does take a bigger gas line. Electric would be easy for a tank less for me. But with just me now I don't see the need. I even turned mine down so I run full hot to save a buck or two.

Project complete......

Drained, vacuumed out, flushed the tanks for three minutes each and cleaned out the debris
.
Replaced the four elements and raised the thermo's a tad!

I'm adding a filter to the supply line next (thx, MM), this should really help to extend the life expectancy. I'll put a reminder on my calendar this time!

Oh, the tanks weren't quite two years old, pretty ugly scale......

I didn't hear a thing about the anode rods. They are the most important part that many don't even know about.

Wire brush the elements they are still good.

It cost 72., which included the wrench, these are already in the trash can.

Bought the Bradford White vs. the knock offs too....

Well I guess you will replace the anode rods when you replace the water heaters after the flood. Can't say I didn't try.

Yeah I’d never get that rod out, only inches of space above the tanks…

with tankless... it's trying to heat cold water as it's flowing. Takes a lot of energy to do that.
