Default How did I do?

My wife saw this today, and bought it for ten cents. Her friends at work told her she got ripped off, as it was not US coinage. Did she get ripped off?

Not a coin expert but I gotta believe it’s worth more than ten cents even on the melt value

Worth $2 or $3 in that condition. It's a Barber dime, not too rare yet anyways.

Not great condition, but melt value should be $1.50 to $1.75 depending on how much it still weighs. I'm not sure where the folks in your link are getting $5 for examples a lot more worn than my new acquisition, I'm guessing those are asking prices. Nobody pays big bucks for coins in worn condition.

Yup, I've got a handful of these, you can get a couple bucks each if the date is legible from a coin dealer or make the extra buck or two selling yourself. A PITA for a buck in my opinion.

Agreed. As the picture shows, the date, and the entire edge on both sides is clearly visible, so while obviously circulated, the condition isn't bad at all. The problem is that IMO, more and more over the years, for anyone to pay significantly over Silver value for a coin like this, the condition has to be a fair amount better than what I have.

It's a nice little addition to my very modest collection, and I'm sure I'll get my wife's 10 cents back one way or another someday, but I'm not getting together the down payment on that 150 foot yacht just yet.

Yep. Old, worn Barber dime. I have a film canister full of them. And here is an old, worn Barber quarter. It is my ball marker when I play golf.

Let's go with team effort, since she wasn't even sure it was a real coin, but was smart enough to ask me.

She sent me a text earlier today that she has some Kennedy halves dated 1964-1971, and asked me if I wanted them (for $0.50 each), I said "yes please!". I already know what the 1971(s) are worth.

There were 3 1964 Kennedy halves in the bunch, all Philadelphia mint. All three in very good condition for circulated coins, especially the middle one.

Maybe this’ll help. At the airport and screenshot was the best I could do.
