Question Mail Carrier XMAS Gift?

I've never done this before, mainly because I wasn't home during the day or because they switched people out so often. But my current mail carrier is a pretty nice guy...always says hello, nice to my dog. He also circumvents stuffing my mailbox with junkmail when he can, which I really appreciate. Does anyone give anything to their mail carrier in the way of a XMAS gift? If so, what is appropriate and for how much? When should it be given?

TIA

We have a great rural mail carrier. Yes he gets a little gift at Christmas. We leave it in the mail box a couple days before Christmas!

We get a gift card that he can use at the local convenience stores in the area. Gas, lunch or stuff like milk to take home.

Technically there not supposed to accept cash or booze but I have friends that leave that in the mail boxes.

In a rural area, mail lady goes out of her way to ensure we get everything, will leave larger packages where we instruct to leave, just a nice person.
Will leave her a greeting card with a gift card to a local eatery.

I'd recommend a nice styrofoam cooler as a gift, but that's just me.

My mail carrier sucks. I'd never give him a gift, even though he's left notes asking for them. This dork delivers checks due me to other addresses. Worse yet, he delivers packages to the front door to the wrong place. Really dude? Enjoy Christmas, just don't count on anything from me.

The Post office is a 1/2 mile from my house. We don't get our mail until 6pm. He's lucky i don't break his kneecaps.

You're lucky. My friend at one time lived very close to the post office in a little bitty town. They wouldn't deliver mail to him, he had to pay to rent a P.O. box. The ironic thing about that? He lived next door to the mail man.

I could see the not delivering part, but forcing him to pay for a P.O. Box? That always seemed wrong to me. Getting mail service should be free for every citizen.

Our mail carrier in NH was a sweetheart. She always gave the dogs cookies when she had to drive up. We would give her a couple of bix boxes of cookies so she did not spend her own money.

Our mail carrier is a good guy. He has always been friendly, and makes sure we get our mail and packages delivered. He works long hours in some bad weather. We always give him a gift card to a nice restaurant group around here, enough for he and his wife to have dinner and wine, and dessert.

He ASKS for a gift??? Tacky. You never ask no matter what.

Good idea. Although I was reading that if you give them a gift worth more than $20, they are obligated to either return it or pay back the difference. Cookies sound nice but I don't bake. Perhaps I'll buy some good quality ones at the bakery and include a Starbucks card.

Thanks!

We have always had great rural postal drivers and we make sure they know we appreciate them. Water or Gatorade in the Summer with a snack, freshly grilled brats or hot dogs in the Fall and a nice small gift for Christmas. The same with our disposal crew.

Our mail carrier is a chick that has an approximate dry weight of 400 lbs. She shoves packages that are too freakin small for the mail box in it anyway, because she is too overweight to bring it to the garage. She busts all kinds of shit. I wish I could give her father a rubber before her mom got knocked up with her.
