I think she's absolutely gorgeous. Bays are my favorites and she's got a great blaze. If she's not lame it looks like my kids have MY dream horse.

Purty Hossey
She seems pretty big for a Pony.

Okay, the seller delivered her for me last night. He started having trouble with his truck, the oil pressure dropped. When we got off the freeway his truck was knocking and it died on the side of the road. His son came and with his truck towed the seller's truck which was still pulling the horse trailer. We're ~8 miles from the freeway. The seller left his truck here overnight and still has not come to get it. If there were something wrong with the horse he 1) wouldn't have left his truck here overnight and/or 2) would have come and gotten his truck very early this morning. Right?

Yeah, I'm starting to think I've figured the too-good-to-be-true price tag out (see below).

You know, she's been doing a lot of lying around today. I know she must have had a stressful night being in a new place and we had a whole night of on and off lightning storms. She'll lay down for a really long time. Not flat out like she's sunning herself but on her chest. Then, when she does get up, she's REALLY stiff, mostly in her hind. I'm really hoping she's just tired and her legs are falling asleep. Once she walks it off, she's good.

Thanks for the info on the cannon bones, I walked her on the grass the first half of the ride, then on the blacktop on the way home. Maybe we'll stick to the blacktop. She does seem to have fantastic hooves!

I sure hope she's just tired from the long night then her legs are falling asleep. I really don't need a lame horse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't offer a guess about what's causing her stiffness, but just give her time to see how she feels after getting rested up. As you know, the old saying "strong as a horse" is terribly inaccurate since they're pretty delicate. So is the term "horse sense"--what other animal would drink whatever you sit in front of them??? Has she been vetted? Do you know for sure she's only 5?

I didn't have her vetted. I don't know any vets out that way and she was only $650 and that included delivery ~30 miles away.

I sort of know how to check a few things but I didn't do a flexion (sp) test, which I will have my husband help me do when he gets home. That should tell me something about what's going on, I'm thinking it may be her stifles. Lord, I hope not... He wasn't being obvious about it, but I heard him tell 2 people who called "I'm showing her right now..." and it wouldn't surprise me if people were calling him about her at the time. I am very skeptical and expect to be told other people are interested in a horse when I'm looking at it.

I figure if she is lame then she wont be bucking much or running off so if anything she will be a great confidence builder for my kids. The guy's truck is still here so it doesn't look like he's trying to avoid me and she hasn't laid down in a while and has been walking around fine. We snuck out to go get the kids a riding helmet so they can ride her today. Between walking her around with them and probably riding her again myself and the flexion (sp) test I should have a good idea what's going on.

I just looked up in time to see her bucking and kicking at my filly (still trying to establish a pecking order) so it looks like she feels pretty good now. if she's sound, I got a hell (pardon my french) of a deal!

As for being 5, she's got the teeth of a five year old.

I wouldn't be too concerned about anything just yet. Some horses travel well and adjust rapidly, others don't. She could have hurt herself getting in the trailer or while on the trailer. Yes, it's called a flexion test, but I wouldn't do anything for a few weeks just to see how she does on her own. For the price and particulary for her intended use, I'll bet she'll have a long, healthy, happy life. She is a beautiful animal! I think you got a helluva deal.

Thanks, I think you're right. She was walking across the pasture a few minutes ago after giving the kids a ride for about an hour, and her stride was long and she looked nice and relaxed and comfortable.

I love bays too. The first horse I bought on my own was a bay. He was very close to being a blood bay. Your kids are very lucky.

I've read your latest updates and I'm very happy to see that it looks like she's doing much better.

I can't say that I know anything about horses other than which end I have been called on occasion but that looks like a fine specimen. Hope you all enjoy her.
