Default Presenting Lexi

Yesterday my mom finally fulfilled her dream of buying my kids a "pony." According to the gentleman we bought her from she's technically 1" taller than a true pony and I believe him. She's a little taller than we all had in mind, but that just means the kids will be able to ride her for a long time.

She's only 5 and I have no idea what her breed is, but she seems to be a good, solid horse.

I rode her yesterday and tried to get her to spook and only once did she even come close. I had one of the guys wave his cowboy hat at her when we walked by. She stopped and kinda tossed her head up a bit, but I was able to get her going again and she walked on by.

I'm always very skeptical when it comes to buying a horse so I wasn't sure what I was going to have when I got up this morning and anything that may have been in her system had worn off and she got a good rest. Fortunately, she seems to be the same horse today! She's great to catch in the pasture, even coming to me a couple of times. I also rode her around a bit and she was real alert, but stayed calm.

She looks like she had a gnarly run-in with some barbed wire a few months ago and has some scarring, but the only part that might cause a problem is on her shoulder and it seems to be fine.

I'm still trying to find something wrong with her. She needs some fine tuning, but (so far) nothing I can't handle.

Now for the pics:

Since you only got one horse, shouldn't it be Lexus and not Lexi?

She does have a really pretty head and neck. However, I didn't realize until I posted the pictures here that her cannon bones (between her knees and ankles) look kinda thin... Hmmm...

That's for sure... and I do expect a better manners than she has, but she seems to catch on really quickly.

BB, while her cannon bones do look thin, they're not alarmingly so. You can always use splint boots/bandages. Some folks say that riding the horse on hard ground strengtens that bone. It's actually mostly a shock absorber, as you know.

She's a good looking girl, BB. E showed me the ad on CL - damn good deal on a 5 year old in good shape who'll do a little reining.

Mom done good.

Yeah, I'm starting to think I've figured the too-good-to-be-true price tag out (see below).

You know, she's been doing a lot of lying around today. I know she must have had a stressful night being in a new place and we had a whole night of on and off lightning storms. She'll lay down for a really long time. Not flat out like she's sunning herself but on her chest. Then, when she does get up, she's REALLY stiff, mostly in her hind. I'm really hoping she's just tired and her legs are falling asleep. Once she walks it off, she's good.

Thanks for the info on the cannon bones, I walked her on the grass the first half of the ride, then on the blacktop on the way home. Maybe we'll stick to the blacktop. She does seem to have fantastic hooves!

I sure hope she's just tired from the long night then her legs are falling asleep. I really don't need a lame horse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had Tenn. Walkers and just going by what I saw at shows was my guess.
