[cheap wine thread] Wine peeps...
I'm going to switch from beer to wine. I feel better in the morning when I drink wine than even after only two or three beers the night before.
What's a fairly non-nauseating cheap wine? Nothing with a real cork... or even a bottle. Actually, I'm thinking about what comes in a cardboard box from Sam's Club. I'm looking for just something cheap, for a daily wine with meals and after supper. I prefer reds... cabs or merlots especially, or even a full zinfandel. |

There was an article in today's paper about drinking wine and the most purchased wine runs in the $7-$8 a bottles. I've tasted some pretty good wine in that price range and in my non-wine expert opinion most wine cheaper than that tastes like ass and a lot of wine a lot more expensive than that tastes worst.

Just got a good one tonight...I never remember which wine I like so it is usually a crap-shoot...it was called Chill Out Sweet Red. It was on sale for something like $6. I really like it. Sweeter not really dry. I made it into Sangria.

Some people dislike it but it suits me just fine. To each their own palate. I drink Yellow Tail Cabernet - Merlot. A dry red that goes good with cheese and salami. I don't always drink wine, but when I do, I prefer Yellow Tail. Stay thirsty my friends.

I like woodbridge. As long as I am in Alabama, I get winking owl for Aldis at less than 3 bucks and I really enjoy it.
I have only had wine from a box one time and it had a plastic taste to it from the bag. |

Another vote for Yellow Tail. Not the best...but very drinkable and affordable every day.

If you have a trader joe's somewhere close by, head there. Roughly $35 for a case of wine. Mix and match with what they have. Charles Shaw (aka 2 buck chuck). You can't go wrong.

Any others? |

I need more info on what you like in a wine. For instance, is it okay with if the wine ages while the vintner has a cigarette, or do you want it aged longer? Also, do grape dregs in the bottle bother you? Lastly, do you mind drinking straight from the bottle so as to avoid the aroma of the wine?

I like Penfolds Bin 389 Shiraz-Cab. Cantagua for Merlot. Edna Valley for Syrah.

Still cheap - but in a bottle... just about anything from Reunite. Lambrusco and Raspberry are the two favorites with my wife. Even the large bottle is only about $12.
