Default Why...just why?

Some dude went into the Cheddar's restaurant here in town an hour or so ago, bought everyone at the bar a round, and went in the crapper and promptly blew his brains out. Roughly 1.5 miles from my house. At least he was nice enough to buy everyone a drink, but he should have gone out back and spared someone the cleanup in the restroom. WTFO?

Well, hopefully he did. It was all over social media immediately after it happened, but no word on whether or not he bought the good stuff.

ServPro was out there a minute ago. Looks like they tore the whole bathroom out judging by the pile of debris sitting at the front door of the place. I guess we should count ourselves lucky that he didn't feel like taking more people out. That said, if I was the owner, I would be pretty hot that he decided to come mess up my place of business with his brain matter.

Suicide is something we can never understand, especially those of us touched by it.

Rational people cannot justify irrational behavior. As another stated, glad he bought drinks instead of taking people out with him.

Congrats to the peeps in the bar on the free beverages, thoughts with his family. It sucks.

A few months ago, I spent an entire afternoon circling over a major freeway in Downtown LA watching a guy that had climbed onto a freeway overpass, threatening to jump onto the freeway.

The ensuing chaos required the authorities to shut down the entire freeway, which of course a major artery in Downtown LA being closed, traffic was a complete nightmare for HOURS. It was an epically horrible situation from a traffic standpoint, but after several hours negotiators were able to safely talk this person down...

Just as everything was starting to wind down on that situation, another person actually jumped off a different freeway overpass in Buena Park/Anaheim, successfully ending their life.

No dog and pony show, this person just went and did it.

I guess what I am trying to get at, from my experience, is that the people that make a lot of noise about killing themselves is more often than not just a cry for help...People that are truly suicidal just go and do it.

Very true. In the medical field we are trained to take all threats seriously, but what you describe is almost exclusively the case.

I can understand it, especially for those with chronic, debilitating conditions. You wake up, figure out that this is your life, this is the best it's going to get for you, and you don't like it and want to check out. That seems very reasonable. Say someone is at the beginning or moderate stages of Alzheimers, for example. If that's me, I'm going to get my affairs in order and put a bullet in my head. If I can help it, I'm not going to become a drooling vegetable.

People make decisions about quality of life. For Steven Hawking, being debilitated and in a wheelchair was OK, he chose to live and make the best of it. I personally wouldn't choose to do that. Get affairs in order and check out.

Now, are there people going through emotional or financial problems who aren't making rational decisions? Yes. Those people are using a permanent decision to solve a temporary problem. Those folks need help, although, in the end, the decision should be theirs to make, after they have been given all the facts and options.

Suicide is a very difficult thing to understand but once it has touched your life, your views on it change forever and you look at life entirely different

Happened to me when my best grade screwal buddy went to Ca. to be with his sigh-ky-it-trist father.......I was just shy of age 20 when I got the letter, I was all pissed off and sad, supposedly over some gal......but tell you what, I lost all respect for that entire field of operations....psych work......all they can do is sympathy/commiserate with the patients long enough for them to figger out that they not alone, 40 billion other miserable bastards out there too.....
