October Photo Contest Subject

The normal rules apply. This month's subject is old buildings. It can be any man made structure provided it is over 50 years old. It can be occupied or in ruins.

Hey Phil, excuse my ignorance on this but a few questions.
1) How do we submit (is it just putting them in this link?)
2) How many can we submit
3) In regards to this contest can the subject be in the background...example I shoot models from time to time in old building?

2) How many can we submit You can post as many as you want but only one will be voted on. So pick which one you want voted on.
3) In regards to this contest can the subject be in the background...example I shoot models from time to time in old building? The subject should be the focal point. There can still be other things in the picture but the subject should be what the picture is about.

Rick, probably the most important rule is the photo must be captured this month. We started this to encourage people to get outside and shoot. Using any type of camera and equipment available. Use any PP with the exception of borders and mats. It is for fun and rules applied on the honor system.

UPDATE- CORRECTION....DO NOT USE ANY of the Photos Below for the contest. I was just invited to "Harts Square" for their annual open to the public event...I will explain later, but all of the architecture is from prior to 1890. That will be in about 10 days, I will use some of those pics instead.





I believe this one will fit the criteria for voting. This was taken on Oct 1st at the old Cone Mills Abandon Textile Plant in Salisbury, NC.

This is the one that would qualify and please use for voting:




BELOW are pics that I would like to share that would have qualified if they were taken this month of the models were not in the shots. These are NOT eligible for the contest. First group is of the same textile plant. The second group is of the Catherdrals in Paruge, CZ that I went to visit this summer. Build dates were around 1200AD.

For some reason some of the pics are not showing from my other post. NOTE: These shots are NOT eligible for the contest as they were taken a few months back, however the building are abit over 50 years old so I thought I would share. Castle and Churches around Prague, CZ right around 1200AD.

I use to take disposables and wrap them in paper sack paper. A couple of pieces of twine, and they looked perfectly like a civil war cartridge pack at the reenactments.

I am a very competitive person...but too be fair I NEVER want to discourage someone from entering a contest. Honestly, every single photo I make I look at it and say "Darn I should have shot from this angle" or " I should have chosen this aperature instead of that". At the end of the day I learn alot myself from getting C&C from all sorts of people and also viewing their vision of a scene makes me much better.

All of that being said, although I don't feel my work is that good, I don't mind be excluded from any contests and just help judging instead.

you haven't won yet....

good to see the world from someone else's point of view. all the old buildings are downtown here (40 mile round trip), so i might have to make a day of it sometime. i have lots of dirt, rocks, and trees!!!

Don't get me wrong I'm not being presumptuous! That is really not my style. I just wanted to make sure when I joined this section I'm ADDING to the fun not deterring people from participation.

I'm actually going to withdraw my photo from above anyway as I have a bit of a different opportunity for a shot that just came my way earlier today.

Just wanted to clarify this part. Old bridges, towers, damns, etc., would still be acceptable. As long as its a man made structure.
