While I was working on this frame, a photographer and another photo editor walked past at separate times and both said "Hey, that's pretty!", so I guess I'll submit this one for now. It's full frame.

THIS is a topic I've shot a few pics of. Picking one that I like the most is going to be hard!

Generally speaking, I'm using a Canon PowerShot sx20is. A few of my older ones are a Nikon Coolpix 5000. For the flower shots, I'll sometimes use the foliage setting to get the greens to pop. Other times, I'll use aperture priority for control of my depth of field. Other than that, I do no chopping - I'd only make em look worse!

I'm sure that many people are curious about the equipment used but it's really not about equipment. It's about the person who knows how to use the equipment to get the image.

We've all heard the statement "Gee, that camera takes good pictures". Does anyone stop to consider how insulting that statement is?

I think Yamma will agree with me. The assignments so far have been within the range of everyone with any type of equipment. You don't need the latest and greatest to get a great shot. It's about getting out there and using what you have to get the results you want. It's about the effort of training yourself to see the shot and having a camera with you when you see it.

There are several people participating in these assignments that know that I have access to top of the line pro equipment, a pro studio (I'll take a picture of it sometime), and pro editing and manipulation software. In fact I'm getting a new computer installed at work today or tomorrow with CS5 on it.

I knew that I had an unfair advantage right at the start as far as equipment goes. That's why I decided NOT to use the studio lighting equipment or lenses that many others do not have access to, ie. a 400mm 2.8. I don't even own the equipment I use. I get the old left-overs such as an 5-6 year old loaner D 300 rather than a D3. Most of you have much more sophisticated camera bodies than I use. I can't do anything about the 30 years of experience I have in my head....

The point of the assignments is to get people out there to have fun looking and learning, then showing off your work to the rest of us.

I just spotted this posted on fb by a former boss and friend of mine. It's a different perspective. Sometimes it's all about changing your angle of view....

The quality isn't the best because the posted image was small and I blew it up a bit.

"Set an ancient 14mm lens on the ground shooting up to capture these tulips reaching for the sun at Biltmore Estate."

I love this photo of yours, but the photo editor in me is compelled to try an extreme crop. Please don't hate me...

That slim one would look great enlarged and hung over a long piece of furniture or in a sunroom.

Looks great!

What I love about these contests is that it shows different perspectives. I know how my eye sees things so seeing things that you see every day, but from a different perspective, is a LOT of fun. It gives me new things to look out for and perhaps try.

That camera in the flowers shooting up perspective is pretty cool!
