Default Cool score today! (Old slot car track)

Friend messaged me last night and said he found something I may be interested in while while helping his neighbor clean out his basement. It is an Aurora Model Motoring slot car set from 1968. Kit number 1909-610, the one we all wanted as a kid. FOUR LANES!!! It is pretty complete missing only the guard rails, two controllers and one car. I have a few extra early cars and already been on Ebay searching guard rails and controllers.
He knew I'd be interested because just a few days ago we were talking about things we have had since we were kids and I told him I still had three complete A/FX slot tracks from the early seventies and close to fifty cars.
The price? $25!!! And brought it to me at work today.
I used to have a track set up in my attic and the kids and I raced occasionally. Once we get the next house I intend to set up one huge track with the A/FX kits and now maybe run this one inside it. Then it will be time to introduce the grandkids to old style toys!
Last pic is the newer style A/FX and GPlus style cars. Much faster than the older ones. The NASCAR ones I picked up at yard sales.Click image for larger version

Aurora was always my favorite, but Tyco dominated the market somehow.

I got deep into the Aurora slot cars - including modifying the motors to go faster, gold plated pickup, foam tires, etc. Me and friends built a HUGE 4 lane setup in my basement everyone contributed track .... lots of fun.

I had Aurora slot car tracks and Lionel train set when I as a kid. In the late 60's and early 70's there was several slot car tracks in which to go slot car racing. By the mid 70's they were all gone. As for the Lionel train set which I got in 58 for Christmas. I thought it was gone then about 10 years ago my mom called and said she found everything in the attic. I still have the set.

That's a cool find. Not too much with slots, but I did like to watch the slot car races in the boardwalk stores in Ocean City, MD.
Was into trains back then, still am.

I also have a Tyco Train set from the mid seventies. I think maybe one of the Santa Fe basic sets. It's upstairs and I have not seen it in a while but as best as I remember it has the engine, boxcar, maybe a tanker, and a caboose with the transformer and round track.
When we were kids my neighbor had the slot car/ train track intersection. We used to play "beat the train" all the time. My slot car set has a four way intersection. It was a load of fun, too.

I still have my old slot car from the 70's. Haven't used it since then. Just sitting in the same box. I used to go with 2 other buddies to the YMCA track in downtown San Diego, but first we would stop at the local Bull Weevil for a burger and several beers.

I remember indoor slot car tracks where you could take your car and race against others. It does show our age!

I considered my track as a gateway to my C3 hobby. An early 70’s Tyco set w/ slot cars that had working headlights that looked so cool on the pre-Christmastime TV commercials (still have it!).
Thanks for digging up fond childhood memories.

DAMN, you bunch of old farts, I join the club.....born in '44....age 76 here....played with Lionel O ga on two 4x8' tables my father built in the basement.....GG1 loco, 2332, Pennsylvania RR on the side....green with gold stripes......gave it to my nephew when I was about 20 or so.....he played with it and I happened to go by my sisters house and there the loco was, in the trashcan I fished it and two pieces of track out, and set it on the shelf in my apt......so a few months later I was reading the Sunday paper/classified and spotted an adv for Lionel trains....called the guy up, went over to his house and about shit bricks when seeing his collection....that long about '76 or so.....

So bought much stuff from him, and built a single 4x8 table, and layed track all over the apt. floor in the living room.....

then the kids mom and I bought a townhouse.....basement....4---4x8 sheets of ply nothing on the floors....after kids were say 2&4.....I took the garage in a regular single family home and turned it into a train room, about 6 sheets worth...and so they 'helped' build that layout.....after the divorce, I moved to another house across the freeway, and it had a THREE CAR GARAGE built by p/o in the back yard....all concrete driveway too....wonderful party place....
so we went to take one of the bays and build a circuit layout 3 layers tall, and operate 5 trains at once......with a SCALE GG1 loco and SCALE passenger cars as the high speed loop two ZW transformers, and one RW.......the kids were old enough to actually help me build it, lay track, paint walls, paint table....etc.....When planning the move south, I sold it all off except my OEM Loco which my son has out in Ca. now....some 7 grand worth of gear.....maybe a year later the market for Lionel trains went WAY south, and today it's cheap as hell, I understand.....except for maybe the 5344.....
