Suckish turn of events (job)

For 5 years and 11 days I have thoroughly enjoyed my job. I have done well, I have dedicated myself to it. I have a GREAT rapport with our CEO and COO who I report to. I have enjoyed generous bonuses, lenient time off if needed, and occasional after hours shot of whiskey or a cold beer with my boss. Overall, more than I could want.

NOW, they hired a VP of sales that is between me and my boss. He's an ex Navy Seal, as is his son and I suspect his father was also military. The guy is an ass. ZERO sense of humor, power tripping, "do as I say" type. He verbally communicates all friendly and cooperative, and then sends stupid ass inaccurate emails with my previous boss copied in. All meeting times are in military time..."I'll call you at 1700 hours" etc.

This sucks. One of few jobs that I had no problem with coming to work every day. People go in daily and hate every minute of what they do. I love what I do, but now I have this jacktard to contend with.

Too young to retire
Too old to job hunt
Too poor to quit

My last boss was ex-military and a Grade A asshole. He did me a huge favor when he "eliminated my position" in the company in August. He got fired with no notice last week.

I'm doing part-time consulting now, setting my own hours and making more money than I was making working full time.

BTW the US is the only country really that uses a 12 hour clock.

That sucks. A new boss frequently ends up bringing unwanted change.

4 times in my career I got a new Boss other than the one that hired me and 3 of the 4 times it resulted in my leaving the company, either voluntarily or involuntarily.

Mrs Flex just found out yesterday her Boss is leaving the company in February and she is freaking out.

Just try to be the better man and hopefully he'll chill out. Good luck.

Sit him down, remind him that you aren't and weren't in the military so stop trying to push that on you. You're not signing up for boot camp anyway. Also let him know you had no issues until he arrived and made issues which is now hurting the company, and BCC your previous boss on an email about it if needed. Hell, go ask to chat with the boss and see if he can help if it's that bad.

Either that or dude was hired to go all REPO on your ass and run you off. And since he WAS military, the term "eat a bag of dicks, you hot racking squid" is an acceptable way to tell him he is a piece of shit that's ****ed up like a football bat.

and if he's getting info wrong along with micro managing, just overwhelm him with updates and corrections. My first boss when I was hired full time at the college was like that and after about two weeks she told me to just do my thing and keep her up to date on projects/progress.

Put out the feelers. I was in the same situation 3 years ago. At 57, I hated my job, but the money was decent, I had 6 weeks of vacation, and I could come and go as I pleased. Out of the blue an opportunity came along. I gained a little salary, lost some vacation, but I am so much happier.

This. The best time to look for a job is when you have a job. Life is too short to go to work every day for years at a job you hate.
