Fred is getting bigger... and the trappers still can't caatch him

Fred is our unofficial campus mascot at work. Unfortunately, he's over 4' long so he'll have to be removed (permanently) and by federal law he can't be relocated.

Anyway, yesterday I was checking on some equipment with the maintenance supervisor in our outdoor center and decided to stop by the dock on the way back. We immediately heard a splash from the far side of the pond and saw Fred making a b-line straight for us. Yep, you guessed it... somebody has been feeding him but not us. We know better.

And yes, we assumed his gender. Nobody is brave (or stupid) enough to check.

Find a few local gator hunters, pay them to relocate, as killing him sucks.

He has been feed to long and now expects it. Does this sound familiar? They will kill the gator because it is to dangerous. And will breed more dependent offspring.

FL Fish and Wildlife has control over the trapping permits and they are only good for 30 days at a time. He's over the size limit to relocate and that's a federal regulation.

Three attempts so far and the trappers can't get him because they only come at night and on weekends. For some reason they don't even get a glimpse of him then.

As for the hunters, the season doesn't open till close to august and most hunters don't want to waste a tag (issued by lottery) on a gator this small.

Alligators are extemely easy to locate at night. Just shine a bright light like a Q Beam. That’s what we do on the bayou. Your trappers must be vegan millenials.

I think at night he retreats further into the swamp that is difficult to traverse (if at all) even during the day.

Cajuns are damn good at trapping gators, AND I saw a show where some were making BIG money catching BIG ASS snakes and selling the venom.
