Default New Truck Tires

got the tires last week from TireRack.com, some Goodyear Wranglers (LT265/70R18), and arranged with the chevy garage to put them on today. had an appt for 10am. I arrived about 9:50.

at 12:30, they handed me my keys.

2-1/2 hours to mount and balance 4 tires seems too long for such things. particularly when you have made an appointment, so you are not the 19th guy in line that day if there is only one guy doing tires.

after 2 hours of being in the waiting room, i wandered out to the service lane, asked how they were going, and then hung out there until they got done.

they drove the truck out to where i was standing, handed me the keys, and said "you are all set" - translation - no charge.

so i went and bought some potting mix for Mrs. DAB with what I would have spent on tire install.

next time i go to the dump, i'll take the old tires with me. about 1/32" of tread remains before you get to the wear bars. not bad for 58700 miles.

Same here, the closest way to describe wet (rain ) traction was "slimy"

Ahh I love a good tire discussion ! I too have never liked wranglers, but I know people who do, it all comes down to the vehicle and how you use it

I was happy to get rid of my GY Wranglers and my neighbor was happy to buy them.

I just put a set of BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A's on, the 10 ply heavy duty ones. Good in the rain, and excellent grip in the mush. I'm liking them. They are a little louder on the highway than the BF Goodrich Rugged Trails they replaced, but I'm happy so far.

The KO2s are a solid all-terrain tire.

That's what I have. Long lasting tires for the street is why I like them. Get into mud and let us know how that works out for ya...

I'm running BFG K02 AT's on my Taco 4x4 and while they perform well in the Snow and Off-Road, I am looking for something a little less aggressive next time. They are also not that great in the rain.

My main gripe with them is coming downhill for 20 miles from 7k to Sea Level on the twisty Mountain Road leaving my Cabin, they vibrate a lot. It's not my rotors either, I've had it aligned tires rotated etc. It's just the aggressive design of those tires...They are also noisy.

They aren't wore out yet so I'll live with them for now, but I wont' go that route again.

Anybody advise on a decent all around tire that gives adequate off-road and snow performance without being crazy aggressive like the K02's?

I'm now running a set of Nitto Terra Grappler G2 285/85-17 tires.

I don't know how they are in snow but they work well in desert terrain. They seem to have developed some hum after 3 years and 30k miles. Nothing the sound of a 24 valve Cummins can't mask most of the time. Still round and no vibration though.

I run M/T so I can't give you firsthand advice on a less aggressive tire but start by looking at these:

General Grabber A/TX
Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx
Nitto Terra Grappler AT
Falken Wildpeak A/T3W
Toyo Open Country A/T 2

Revo 2 and Terra Grappler G2 are both great tires

Yo DAB,
Have I ever told you I'm partial to Cooper tires....

Time to replace the OEM 16" Michelins @46K miles.
They held up well.

They came with a set of chrome inserts, but I left the red inserts on.

Got them from Tire Rack out of MN in 1 day, mounted w/TPMS, balanced, and a TPMS trigger tool
that I haven't used yet (no warning TPMS light yet).

I had the same tires on my Blazer, so I'm partial to Cooper A/T3s.
Wheels are Enkei GW8

UPS dropped these off in my driveway today.
I ordered them yesterday;

More teaser pix....

What I got for a replacement....

Mounted!

I'll take it out tomorrow for a cruise to check noise level, but local 30mph is nice and smooth.

I had the same tires on my Blazer, so I'm partial to Cooper A/T3s.

no pics.

the good part of new tires: better grip. the bad part: they catch and hold more gravel from the driveway.

so far, nice and quiet on the hwy.
