You may be wiser than I, if it went 23 years without a cleaning, that could be the key.

Key to what? It runs and works great, always has.

I spent weeks in the woods every fall cutting firewood to heat my house. No time for cleaning. What would be the point? Who cares, besides somebody online who uses theirs for 10 minutes every other year to cut some 2" limbs in their suburban 1/4 acre lot?

I grew up with this stuff, been around it all my life, never heard of anyone and don't know anyone who "cleans" their chainsaw other than clearing out chips or something. But I don't know anyone who lives in suburbia.

People that don't understand chainsaws see that and clamp that thing down with zero give. Eats the guide bar and spends way too much energy in friction. Echo does that because it's safer, but not because it's best for performance and life expectancy.

One more thing...

That is an Oregon bar. Clearly he has been through many chains and at least one bar. Probably has his shit together on the chainsaw side.

I've been around them since I was 15. It has "give", just not loose. Slight pull in the middle exposes three guides. And I'll take safety over longevity of a bar and chain all day long.
