Default any DSL experts?

So i have an intermittent connection after a couple years of flawless service. Tech comes out and can't figure it out. Replaced my DSL switch in the big neighborhood box, replaced wiring from that box to the local pedestal (which happens to be in my backyard), replaced wire from pedestal to d-mark, from d-mark to modem, and replaced the modem. still problems. we are baffled.

initially the tech though it might be that i am too far away from their main shit to have the 6.5 mb speed i have. but again, have had flawless service for a couple years.

so i get home tonight and start checking some other shit. wife gets on her computer and no problems. i get on mine, and problems. for the hell of it try to narrow down to a website, and it looks like i do as it goes down twice in a row with a specific site. third try it goes down with another site, so back to square one.

i remember i recently started using chrome. close chrome and go to firefox. open 15 tabs, tax the traffic quite a bit with no problems. close down firefox, open chrome, and boom. dsl gone. when it goes, it goes for a few seconds and then start the process of coming back online which takes another 10 seconds or so.

so...how the hell does a browser cut off my dsl? literally shuts it down. DSL light on modem goes red, internet light turns off.

wtf?

Then it's a coincidence about 4 times in a row. Not once with Firefox. Every 3 to 4 minutes on chrome.

Way over my head. 2wire model 2701hg-b. The tech did call me back today to suggest slowing down my plan speed from 6.5 to 3mb. But again, Have had this plan for years with no issues. Don't guess I need to do that now as everything is fine if I stay out of chrome.

That's the one. And they replaced (temporarily) while troubleshooting and new one did same thing.

What version of Chrome are you running?
Click Wrench icon, About Google Chrome

The only thing I read in my searches was that you could be getting an error from your ISP's DNS setup.
To test this go into your Windows network connection and change the IP settings so you can manually enter your own DNS server values, instead of the defaults. Try 8.8.8.8 for primary and 8.8.4.4 for secondary. Reboot and see if it makes a difference.

ok...this is windows 7 and i have very little experience with it, but let me try that little experiment to see what happens.

Simple. You need to climb onto your roof and turn the antenna toward the station. Wind could've blown it a little. Learn your station's location and get up there with a sextant. Voila! Problem solved!

let me try that real quick.

the problem with the them giving me a modem is they wont. last time i had one go down i had to go buy it from best buy. not sure if it was a warranty issue, or that i am not paying them monthly for wireless and got my own modem to do wireless.

When my DSL dropped connection a lot, it was the modem. Sometimes it can be heat. Opening it up so it can breath more, or get some air flow over it and see if it makes a difference. I would have to reboot everything to get it to work.

I ordered a Zoom and didn't have problems. I wasn't going to fight with ATT to go through all their trouble shooting crap.

Zoom Telephonics - ADSL Modems & Gateways

I could probably give you it if you want to try. I've dropped my DSL for UVerse now and don't have a use for it.

You might also check your other phone lines. If one doesn't have a filter or if you have a security system that taps into the phone it could be an issue. Doubtful, but worth a look.
