Default Split fingers and cuticles?

Are you tired of your fingers cracking and bleeding in the cold weather? I for one am definitely tired.

Every flipping time I travel to JC, the climate change causes massive cracks, bleeding, and hangnails on my hands, despite putting lotion on my hands 10-20 times a day.

So I stopped at the CVS on the way "home" from the office, and bought liquid bandage. I had one massive crack, and a lot of new ones forming. I mostly painted all of the weak surfaces with the glue, and amazingly it's working quite well!. The existing cracks are secured, and the emerging cracks and cuticle splits are on hiatus. I literally paint the potentially bad finger tips and cuticles with a nice coat of the glue, and still have full use of my hands, vs. a traditional bandage, and I'm betting I complete the week with no new cracks, plus the 1 existing one healed. FWIW, I usually leave here with 4-6 extremely painful cracks, and an equal amount of bloody cuticles.

In essence, this is using the product as preventative maintenance.

I would see a dermatologist. There are such things as skin lotions that are only available with a prescription. Perhaps that would help. My wife visits a dermatologist regularly to monitor and remove small spots of skin cancer and he gave her this lotion that is a topical steroid. I've used it and it really makes things heal fast.

Good advice, but I think I found a way to prevent it from happening in the first place. I couldn't even clean my reading glasses this weekend (from St. Louis trip) because the split on my left thumb was so painful. I'll still use the lotion, but if the glue allows me to "keep my shit together" when I'm here, and not allow cracks to happen, that's a wonderful revelation for me.

I would imagine the humid Florida climate you are acclimated is a total system shock going to cold dry air. I'd bet that the same thing would happen if you traveled to a warm arid or Mediterranean climate out West.

Cool that it's working. Perhaps a dermatologist could prescribe some industrial strength lotion instead of the over the counter crap.

That was my Go-to stuff when I was a printer. Handling paper all day was rough on the skin. I don't mean paper cuts, callouses and proper handling of the paper prevented that. Just very dry skin.

While the Corn Husker's lotion works good, O'Keeffe's is much better

I wash my hands probably ten times a day. I get those cracks on the ends of my thumbs. I use Udderly Smooth. And super glue once they are there.

I use this shit: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Equate-Be...xoCi2AQAvD_BwE

I wash my hands a lot and this has solved the badly dried skin I had.

I also use Kirk’s Castile bar soap at home, much less drying on the hands.

Get a manicure now and then. Invest in a decent set of cuticle cutters, and cut those pieces of cuticle, rather than picking at them or biting them off.

^This.

Taking care of nails/cuticles/etc is a unisex task...a good manicure set with cuticle cutters, nail scissors, and metal nail file is good to have on hand (no pun intended)

I have had the same issue for years. My Dr. told me it was from excessive dryness of the fingertips, in my case from frequent hand washing and handling cardboard boxes..
I started using the topical steroid cream. That helped if you use it constantly. Also wore protective gloves. The O’Keefes hand cream works, too.
I used to superglue the worst cracks shut, but it never lasts. And the dry skin doesn’t fare well, either. Keeping the fingertips from drying out works best.

Guys, yawl suffering with that dry hands shit would drive me krazy.....I have just the opposite problem, totally over oily skin, winter/summer, up north and here in Florida too.....I wash hands about a dozen times/day....never an issue....between cars/gardens/lawns/house...I always into some shit that if I want ice in my water, I wash first.....

my skin is always full of excess oil/grease, every once in a while I wipe down my face and ears with CHLORINATED BRAKE CLEANER, just to dry it OUT for a freeking change.....

22 years ago, when moving to Florida, it was because of arthritis, witch has developed into Psoriasis also, and I have had a bout back ten years ago with tons of skin cancers cut off my face/cheeks.....sun damage from too much time on the outside in summer fun.....boating/fishing/sailing/camping/shooting/beach/suntans....put it this way, my old hyde has been baked pretty good.....

Lots of good suggestions above. Our weather here from Jan through April is dryer than a popcorn fart.

And yeah, my nails have been cracking the past few weeks. Annoying as hell.
