Flashback to 1970, the very first year of Earth Day! There was a commercial playing on television to call in and receive your free pamphlet of information. As a kid, I picked up the phone and called in and low behold somebody answered. They registered my name address and sent me a package. The package was extremely large, filled with pages and pages stickers and photographs quite interesting. I thought it would be interesting to take it to school to share with the class.

My teacher apparently thought it was very interesting too. She took everything I had, and never returned it still to this day. I’d like to get my hands on Mrs. Dowd!

I worked at a big industrial place in Detroit where we did an annual Earth Day facility & neighborhood cleanup.

The first year they removed ~600 tires. Dozens of used syringes and condoms.

I was the IT guy who took pics and wrote articles on the corporate website for divisional stuff. I didn't have to get my hands dirty. Just took pictures and winged a few paragraphs while eating free pizza.

Overall, Earth day was cool.

Dude, that story is from 1970. Even if Ms. Dowd was a 22 year old student teacher at the time, she would be 76 years old now. Chances are pretty good that any hotness she had back then has faded in the last half century.
