Default Fore! Skinned a couple balls yesterday

It was gorgeous here yesterday after the storms. Little brother and I went to Top GOlf during the rain and to the NAS Jax course to play 9 afterwards when the weather cleared. After 3 years of not swinging the clubs, i hit 6 fairways off the tee and only lost one ball...obviously to the water gods. I gotta get out more this spring and summer even if it is a trip to the beach.....

Me and little bro. His ball landed in the grass just above the bunker. 3 more strokes for him on that par 8.

I don’t care for golf. I tried it a couple of times and the whole atmosphere and experience was meh.
At the end of the day what have I accomplished? Hitting the little ball around with a stick? I will pass.

I love golf. It can be enjoyed alone or with a good crew of friends. Even if you are having a terrible day on the course, you are still playing golf and it just doesn't get much better than that. The thrill of getting an eagle on a par 5, the elation of sinking a 60 foot putt, reliving the round with your friends at the 19th hole. It just doesn't get much better.

But some people just aren't cut out for it. I was paired with a guy once at Somerset and it started to sleet while we were on the 15th hole. He actually asked me if we were going to head in! I told him it was just a little sleet and that I was pretty sure it would blow over. By the time we got to the 17th tee box, the sleet was getting larger and coming down in driving waves. He said, "Are we going in now?" I told him there were only two more holes to play and that the clubhouse was on the other side of them anyway. He actually sat in the cart and watched while I played the last two holes out. Over a little weather! Wasn't much more than a Scottish mist.

On another occasion, I was in a charity tournament and had gotten paired with a young Marine Sargent-Major. Nice guy and a good hitter. Halfway through the round, the skies opened up and really let loose. The rain was coming down in sheets and there were torrents of water washing over the fairways. It was a shotgun start and every hole had golfers on it pulled up under trees trying to find a little shelter. I looked at the Marine and asked him if he was good to play on. He grinned, pulled a flask out of his golf bag, and said, "Lead on". There was no way we could have gotten any wetter as we were completely soaked through, so we went from hole to hole and played through. It was great! And that's the kind of guy I like to get paired with. He had the right golfing spirit.
